Katie Healy registered her 54th career double-double and eighth of the season while two other Bloodhounds finished in double figures as John Jay fell on the road at Brooklyn Tuesday, 75-63.
With the loss, the Bloodhounds fall to 7-6 on the season and 1-1 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) while the Bulldogs move to 5-7 and 2-0 in league action.
Healy netted a team-leading 19 points on an efficient 7 of 14 shooting from the field, which included hitting on 5 of 6 from the free throw line in 39 minutes of play.
The Merrick, NY native grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds while also dishing out three assists, recording three steals and a block.
Sophomore
Chayanne Kelly added 17 points off the bench on 5 of 12 shooting while hitting on 5 of 8 from the charity stripe. Kelly grabbed five caroms while trying out for the team lead with four assists in 27 minutes.
Kamryn Hammond chipped in 10 points while matching Kelly with a team-high four assists in 36 minutes of action.
Four Bulldogs reached double-digits, led by Gianni Gotti's 26 points on 11 of 14 shooting. Gotti grabbed a team-high eight boards while leading the way with four assists and three steals in 31 minutes.
Nancy Pham tallied 11 points on a 4 of 9 shooting display. Aleah Rafat and Brianna Gutierrez each scored 10 points on a combined 6 of 16 shooting from the field and 7 of 8 from the free-throw line.
The Bloodhounds took an early 6-2 lead following a made layup from
Ayanna Edwards.
The Bulldogs kept the Bloodhounds at bay, staging a 20-8 run to close out of the first quarter, converting on 8 of 12 from the field in taking a 22-14 lead.
Brooklyn opened the second quarter with five quick points before Kelly stopped the run with a three-pointer off the feed from Healy, making it 25-17 in favor of the home team at the 8:00 mark.
John Jay scored eight of the next 13 points, narrowing the deficit to just five, 30-25, with under a minute to go before halftime as Healy hit the back end of a two-shot foul.
Sarah James hit on one of two from the line before Healy closed out quarter with a layup from Kelly, as John Jay trailed 31-27.
Hammond opened the second half with a layup, as the Bloodhounds trailed by two, 31-29, before Gotti answered with two points of her own on the ensuing Bulldogs possession.
Brooklyn staged a 12-2 run over the next 3:18 in building a 14-point advantage, 45-31, as Mary Dolgin converted on a three-pointer from the feed from Gotti.
Healy briefly halted the run with a layup with 4:32 left in the stanza before Brooklyn netted 15 of the quarter's final 27 points in taking a 60-45 lead.
The Bloodhounds kept Brooklyn from converting from the outside in the final quarter (0 of 7) and outscored the Bulldogs, 18-15. Brooklyn held on for their second conference win of the year.
John Jay shot 37.1 percent from the field (23 of 62) while Brooklyn converted on nearly 46.0 from the floor (28 of 61).
Both teams struggled from the outside, with the Bloodhounds hitting on 4 of 15 from deep while the Bulldogs were 5 of 19.
John Jay outmuscled Brooklyn, 38-35, and 13-10 on the offensive glass. Both teams committed 18 turnovers on the night with the Bloodhounds turning those mishaps into 17 points.
