Men's Basketball Suffers Tough Defeat Against York College; Jayson Delgado & Jordan Evelyn Finish with Career-High in Points

NEW YORK, NY -- Trailing by three at halftime, the John Jay men's basketball team opened the second half outscoring the York College Cardinals, 21-18, to tie the game at 53-53 but the visitors sparked a 22-11 run over a seven-minute span as the Bloodhounds 81-73 on Friday evening. 
 
With the loss, John Jay falls to 2-12 overall and 1-2 in CUNYAC. The Cardinals improve to 3-11 and 2-1 in the conference.
 
Four Bloodhounds reached double-figures on the night. Junior guard Jayson Delgado netted a season-high 20 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field, highlighted by four three pointers. Delgado added a team-high three steals. 
 
Isaac Holmes continues his torrid offensive streak, leading the way for John Jay with 21 points on 6 of 16 shooting from the floor while matching Delgado with four trifectas. Holmes also corralled seven caroms, dished out two assists, had a steal and a block in 37 minutes of action. This marked the fourth time in the last six games he has eclipsed the 20-point mark. 
 
Sophomore Jordan Evelyn registered a career-high 16 points, hitting on 4 of 5 shots from the floor while converting 8 of 11 from the free-throw line. 
 
Garrison Watkins was the fourth Bloodhound in double-figures, as he fell one rebound shy of his first double-double of the season with 10 points, nine boards, three assists, and a team-high two blocks. Junior Corey Jones Jr. grabbed a season-high eight rebounds. 
 
York's Terrell Fullerton led all scorers with 22 points on 8 of 19 shooting while dishing out nine assists and recording six steals in playing the full forty minutes. 
 
Micaiah Goosby recorded a double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds, ten of which coming on the defensive end. 
 
Devine Chisholm was the third Cardinal to score in double digits, adding 15 points in 34 minutes of action.
 
York jumped out to a 5-0 lead but the Bloodhounds were relentless, outscoring the Cardinals 16-11 over a near six-minute span that tied the game at 16 after Holmes dialed up on from the right corner. 
 
York responded with a 9-2 run of their own, building a 25-18 lead following a layup by Fullerton with 7:47 remaining before halftime. 
 
The Bloodhounds caught lighting in a bottle, sparking an 11-1 run of their in regaining the lead at 29-26, after Delgado hit one of two from the line.
 
The Cardinals closed out the half scoring nine of the final 13 points in taking a 35-32 halftime advantage. 
 
John Jay hit on nearly 40.0 of their attempts from three-point range in the opening half while limiting their opponents to just 25.0 percent (3 of 12). 
 
Midway through the second half, the Bloodhounds trailed by five, 46-41, before staging a 14-9 run over four minutes in taking a 55-53 lead, thanks to a pair of made free-throws by Holmes. 
 
The final nine minutes of the contest belonged to the Cardinals, who outscored John Jay, 28-18, with Chisholm and Fullerton combining for 21 of those points down the stretch, securing the victory for York. 
 
John Jay outshot York, converting on 43.4 percent from the field. Both teams hit on over 30.0 percent from long distance.
 
The Cardinals outrebounded the Bloodhounds, 44-36, which included a 15-5 edge on the offensive glass. 
 
York capitalized on John Jay's mishaps, scoring 23 points off 18 turnovers. 
 
The Bloodhounds visit the Hawks of Hunter College on Wednesday, January 11, with tip-off scheduled at 7:00 pm.
