New York, NY - The Doghouse continues to be a fortress for the John Jay women's volleyball team.
After returning from Pennsylvania with a pair of wins at the Immaculata Tri-Match, the Bloodhounds took to the floor against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs.
John Jay logged its sixth match of the season with at least 40 kills in a 3-0 win over the Bulldogs, improving the Bloodhounds to 15-2 on the year and 5-0 in CUNYAC play.
The Bloodhound attack was dialed in from the first set as
Faith Harer opened the match with back-to-back kills.
After the Bulldogs pulled within four with their first block of the set,
Madison Reyes got the team back on serve with a kill from the middle. Setter
Meghan Smith took the ball and served for an 8-0 run with a pair of aces. Team leader
Josanne Lewis racked up three kills in the stretch as John Jay took a 16-3 advantage, and went on to win 25-9.
The Bloodhounds hit for .320 with 12 kills in the opener; their best hitting set of the night.
Brooklyn managed to keep pace in the opening points of the second set, tying the set at four-all early. Lewis again got her team service back and Smith served the Bloodhounds for five straight points to an early 10-4 lead. That six point lead would insulate John Jay through the set and Reyes and Lewis closed out the set with a pair of kills and a 25-14 win.
Head coach
Austin Voges brought a shuffled lineup to start the third set and the Bloodhounds came out swinging. The group totaled a match-high 37 attack attempts and match-high 15 kills. Despite Brooklyn taking another 2-0 lead to start the third set, John Jay reestablished themselves with kills by Lewis and
Hailey Waugaman. The two would combine for another three points, including an ace from Waugaman, to go up 12-5. Brooklyn managed just one kill from there and the Bloodhounds maintained its advantage for a 25-18 set win.
Lewis led the attack for the Bloodhounds 13 kills, one ace and six digs. Smith totaled 29 assists, five aces and 12 digs.
