Women's Volleyball Picks Up Fifth Straight Win And Stays Unbeaten At The Doghouse; Defeats Cairn 3-1

New York, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team earned their fifth straight victory, outlasting Cairn University, 3-1 (25-22; 17-25; 25-14; 27-25) on Tuesday evening from The Doghouse. 
 
With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 11-2 overall on the season and remain undefeated at home, moving to 6-0 on the season at home. The Highlanders fall to 7-6 on the season. John Jay now leads the overall head-to-head series, 2-1.
 

 
Faith Harer was one of two Bloodhounds to record a double-double on the evening as the third year Bloodhound finished with a career-high 23 kills while adding 13 digs for the second straight contest. 
 
Meghan Smith concluded the evening with a season-high 49 assists while adding 13 digs. Josanne Lewis registered 17 kills to go along with two aces and eight digs. 
 
Kristin Gretener notched a team-leading 18 digs while Paige Sadowitz added five rejections. 
 
Hendryl Peabody led the way for the Highlanders with 19 kills. Olivia Zepp recorded 32 assists while Caroline Conrad paced Cairn with 18 digs. 
 
First Set - The first set was matched evenly in the early part of the contest before the visitors took a 6-4 lead off an attack error from Meghan Smith
 
The Bloodhounds sparked a 12-6 run of their run thanks to a kill from Lewis to give John Jay a four-point lead, 16-12. 
 
In the later stages of the contest, the visitors used a 10-6 run of their own to tie the set at 22-22 following a kill from Peabody. 
 
Lewis produced a kill before an attack error from Bridget Dahn that gave the Bloodhounds set point. Harer emphatically recorded the kill as John Jay took the first set. 
 
John Jay recorded 16 kills in the opening set while hitting .205 and holding Cairn to just a .086 hitting percentage. 
 
Second Set -  John Jay jumped out to 3-0 lead to start the second set on an attack error from Rachael Banks. A kill from Conrad followed by two straight aces tied the set. 
 
A kill from Harer narrowed the gap to two, 15-13, before Cairn sparked a 10-5 run in tying the match at 1-1. 
 
For the set, Cairn had five aces and four blocks while hitting .161. 
 
Third Set - The Highlanders jumped out to a 5-2 lead. With the match squared at 5-5, the Bloodhounds scored five of the next six points, capped by an attack error from Georgianna Thorpe that made it 10-5 in favor of JJC. 
 
The Bloodhounds staged a 12-4 outburst in building a 22-9 advantage. Cairn scored the final five of eight points while the Bloodhounds earned the set victory on a service error from Dahn. 
 
Fourth Set -  In the fourth set, the two teams were pitted in a stalemate before John Jay separated themselves with a 12-8 lead thanks to a kill from Reilly Catan
 
The visitors continued to rally, using a 15-11 spurt to tie the set at 23 after an attack error by the Bloodhounds. 
 
Cairn had set point following a kill from Peabody, which forced John Jay to take a timeout. When play resumed, Harer continued to play a pivotal role, as she killed the attempt to tie the match at 24. 
 
Harer had the last two kills for the Bloodhounds which set up a game-winning service ace from Smith as the Bloodhounds remained undefeated at home. 
 
For the match, John Jay recorded 57 total kills to Cairn's 36. 
 
The Bloodhounds will have quick turnaround as they will host St. Joseph's University on Thursday evening at The Doghouse.
