Bloodhounds’ Streak Continues, Women’s Volleyball Notches Sixth Straight Win

New York, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team maintained its winning ways Thursday night at The Doghouse; picking up the Bloodhounds' sixth straight win of the year with a 3-0 victory over St. Joseph's Brooklyn.

The Bloodhounds' CUNYAC-leading offense continued to shine in the non-conference win, hitting over .200 for the fifth match in the campaign. Faith Harer led the charge with 18.0 total points on the night, total 12 kills, four aces and two blocks.

John Jay played its best volleyball of the night in the opening set as the hosts tallied 17 kills and a .378 hitting percentage. After dropping the opening point, Harer picked up her first kill and first ace of the match in consecutive points. Harer and Aniko Ouwendijk teamed up for back-to-back kills later in the set to give John Jay an 11-6 lead and force St. Joe's to call its first timeout.

The Bloodhounds held the visitors to just four kills in the opening set, taking a 25-16 win in the first.

The points tallied quickly to start the second set for John Jay. Malia Reyes came into the match and served up an act to start the second, and after dropping one point to the Bears, the Bloodhounds scored the next seven points. Harer totaled her three aces of the match to give John Jay the early 9-1 advantage.

After St. Joe's pulled to within four, 9-13, Paige Sadowitz got the offense back on track. Her kill, one of six on Thursday, kickstarted a 6-0 run that was capped off by setter Meghan Smith adding two of her three kills. John Jay scored the second set win, 25-13.

In the final set, the Bloodhounds took advantage of the Bears errors early. Down 4-3, John Jay seized on five attack errors in a 7-0 run to take a 10-4 advantage. Harer continued to add to her kill total as the Bloodhounds rotated in a fresh look, leading by as many as eight points. John Jay was able to survive a late push by the Bears to tie the set at 23-all, as the St. Joe's committed a pair of errors to secure the 25-23 Bloodhound win.

With the victory, John Jay improves to an 12-2 (2-0 CUNYAC) record on the season.

NEXT UP: The Bloodhounds hit the road for their first two of two trips-matches in the Keystone State this season. John Jay squares off with Penn State Schuylkill (1:00 p.m.) and host Immaculate (3:00 p.m.) on Saturday, Oct. 7.
