Women's Volleyball Continues Torrid Win Streak; Earns Two Wins Over Penn State Schuylkill And Immaculata On Saturday

Immaculata, PA - The John Jay women's volleyball team continues their winning ways, as the Bloodhounds earned a pair of non-conference triumphs on Saturday, defeating Penn State Schuylkill, 3-0, and host Immaculata, 3-0. 
 
With the victories, the Bloodhounds up their overall record to 14-2 and have now won eight straight matches, the most since the 2017 season, in which John Jay won nine straight from October 17 through October 28.

Malia Reyes led the way for the Bloodhounds with 15 digs while Josanne Lewis, the reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week, notched 12 kills and seven digs. 
 
Reilly Catan and Hailey Waugaman combined to record nine of the 17 service aces, with Catan producing five aces. Megan Smith recorded 20 assists while Caroline Guerney had six assists. 
 
Maddy Robinson led Penn State Schuylkill with seven kills and ten digs. 
 
First Set - The Bloodhounds, who were deemed the home team for the contest, jumped out to a 6-1 lead following a kills from Lewis. PSU-Schuylkill cut into the lead with a bad set that made it 6-4. 
 
In the later stages of the set, John Jay sparked a 9-1 run, increasing their lead to 24-12 after Lewis served up an ace that preceded a kill from Catan. PSU-S Schuylkill rattled off three straight points to remain in the set but a bad set from Robinson sealed the first point for John Jay. 
 
Second Set - The Bloodhounds carried over the momentum into the second set. John Jay staged a 9-0 in taking a 9-2 lead following an ace from Catan. 
 
The two teams remained close midway through, as Schuylkill cut the lead to one, 14-13, following a bad set from Waugaman. John Jay closed out the set on a 11-4 run, with Catan sealing the set via a kill from Smith. 
 
Third Set - John Jay raced out to a 9-1 lead in the third set off a bad set from Tiffany Bohner. The Bloodhounds continued their run, thanks to a 10-4 outburst that pushed the lead to 19-6 following an ace from Waugaman. 
 
Following an ace from Bohner, John Jay closed out the match with six straight points, capped by a kill form Rylea Sandel
 
For the match, the Bloodhounds recorded 34 kills, 17 aces and 32 assists to go along with 49 digs. 
 
John Jay 3, Immaculata 0
 
Faith Harer narrowly registered a double-double against Immaculata, finishing with a team-leading 14 kills and nine digs. She also added three aces to her ledger.  Kristin Gretener had a team-best 18 digs while also chipping in four assists. Meghan Smith notched 27 assists in the match to go along with six digs and two kills. Taylor Hunt recorded a team-high six aces in the match. 
 
Ava Thorley led the Mighty Macs with eight kills while Lily Burnette notched 11 digs to pace the home team. Emily Ettien had a team-leading 12 assists while Burnette and Dinah Stabinski each had three aces. 
 
First Set - The Bloodhounds trailed 7-4 following a kill from Thorley on a block error from Smith. John Jay rallied in the match, thanks to a 12-3 outburst that gave them a 16-10 lead, as five kills came from the duo of Harer and Aniko Ouwendijk
 
Harer continued her strong showing in the first set, as she posted a kill and ace to run up the score to 18-12 before Lewis added a kill for John Jay to go up seven. Harer sealed the first set triumph with a kill from Gretener. 
 
Second Set - John Jay jumped out to an 8-3 lead after an ace by Harer. The Bloodhounds continued to find their rhythm, as Hunt recorded three straight aces that gave the visitors a 20-9 lead before an attack error from Calissa Araujo gave the set to the Bloodhounds. 
 
Third Set - John Jay opened the final set outscoring Immaculata, 9-1, after a kill from Harer. A kill form Paige Sadowitz bumped the lead to 11-3. 
 
The Bloodhounds increased their advantage to 19-8 following three aces from Sadowitz. 
 
Immaculata staged a comeback of their own. Following a kill from Madison Reyes, The Mighty Macs went on a 8-0 run, to cut the lead down to 20-17 following a block error. 
 
John Jay refocused to take the next three points, thanks to a pair of kills from Madison Reyes, before the home team answered back, to get within two, 23-1, on a kill form Thorley. 
 
Catan killed the rally on a block error from Thorley before the teams traded a point but Catan sealed the win on a kill from Smith. 
 
For the match, the Bloodhounds recorded 68 digs, 37 kills and 14 aces. 
 
John Jay resumes CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play as they will host Brooklyn College on Thursday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m. from The Doghouse.
