Men's Basketball Falls On The Road At Maritime On Wednesday Evening

Throggs Neck, NY - The John Jay men's basketball team dropped their road non-conference tilt at Maritime on Wednesday evening, 81-50. 
 
With the setback, the Bloodhounds falters to 3-4 on the season while the Privateers move to 5-1. 
 
Isaac Holmes was the lone John Jay player to reach double figures on the evening, as he netted 11 points.  
 
Garrison Watkins and TJ Chisolm each finished with nine points on a combined 7 of 13 shooting from the field with Watkins securing a team-high seven caroms. 
 
Maritime had two players in double digits, led by Theo Noble, who poured in a game-high 24 points on 9 of 17 shooting from the field in which he connected on 4 of 10 from three-point range. 
 
Evan Block notched a double-double, finishing with 15 points and ten rebounds while also dishing out seven assists in 30 minutes of play. 
 
The Privateers raced out to a 9-1 lead over the first five minutes of the contest as Block capped the run with a three-pointer. 
 
The Bloodhounds rallied back in the contest, outscoring the Privateers, 17-15, over the next 8:48 to cut the deficit down to 24-18 following a three-pointer from Chisolm. 
 
During the run, John Jay converted on 6 of 11 from the field with Chisolm netting seven of the 17 points to jump start the comeback. 
 
Maritime closed out the stanza with 12 of the final 20 points in taking a 36-26 lead into the break. 
 
Both teams shot 42.0 percent from the floor with the Privateers connecting on 7 of 19 from three-point range while the Bloodhounds hit on 3 of 10. 
 
John Jay opened the second half with four of the first seven points, with Isaac Holmes connecting on a driving layup that trimmed the lead down to nine, 39-30. 
 
The Privateers seized control of the tempo, sparking a 15-1 run over the next four minutes to increase their lead to 54-31, following Tyler Anderson hitting the backend of a two-shot foul. Jamir Stewart halted the run with a layup in the paint at the 12:18 mark. 
 
Over a 6:15 stretch, the Bloodhounds found their range from the field, going a perfect 7 of 7 from the floor but Maritime had built a 70-50 lead following a Noble layup. 
 
Maritime closed out the contest on a 11-0 run with Noble contributing five points during the run.  
 
The Bloodhounds were held to just 30.0 percent shooting from the second half while Maritime hit on 45.7 percent (16 of 35). John Jay didn't hit on a three-pointer in the second half (0 of 9) while the Privateers only hit on 4 of 15 (26.7%). 
 
For the game, the Bloodhounds shot 34.7 percent while hitting on 72.2 percent from the free-throw line (13 of 18). John Jay was outrebounded, 39-34, but held a 26-25 edge on the defensive glass. 
 
John Jay gets set to open CUNYAC play on Friday, December 1 as they will travel to Brooklyn College for a 7:15 tip-off.
