No. 3 Seed Women's Volleyball Blanks No. 6 Seed Lehman To Advance To CUNYAC Semifinals

New York, NY - For the third consecutive season, the John Jay women's volleyball team has reached the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) semifinals, as the No. 3 seed Bloodhounds bested the No. 6 Lehman College Lightning, 3-0 (25-7; 25-6; 25-19), in the First Round of the CUNYAC Championships. 
 
With the victory, John Jay improves to 18-8 overall while Lehman finishes the season at 3-17. The Bloodhounds will now head to the No. 2 seed Baruch, on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7:00 p.m. 
 
Josanne Lewis led the way for the Bloodhounds with nine kills and added four digs in the victory while hitting a robust .818. Paige Sadowitz, Hailey Waugaman, and Rylea Sandel each had five kills. 
 
Taylor Hunt produced a team-high seven digs while Meghan Smith finished with a match-high 25 assists, running her career total to 1,970. Ellmedina Hodzic finished with four aces, two digs and two kills in the win. 
 
Arianna Calderon paced Lehman with three kills on the evening and a team-high eight digs. Daira Hernandez added six digs while Ana Mena produced eight assists for the visitors. 
 
First Set - The Bloodhounds opened the set up staging a lengthy 13-1, before the Lightning halted the run due to an attack error. John Jay closed out the set on a 12-6 outburst with Waugaman and Lewis each finishing with five kills apiece to led the way for the three-seeded Bloodhounds. 
 
Second Set - The Bloodhounds opened the set with a 6-0 spurt before a service error from Smith concluded the run. From there, John Jay staged a 12-3 run that increased their lead to 18-4 following a kill from Lewis from Smith with Reilly Catan serving. With Waugaman serving, the Bloodhounds closed out the set with six straight points to go up 2-0 in the overall match. 
 
Third Set - John Jay staked claim to a 7-3 three following a pair of aces from Caroline Guerney. The Bloodhounds doubled up their lead, 16-8, following a kill from Hodzic. Lehman erupted on a 10-6 run of their own, closing the gap to 23-18 but two straight kills from Catan sealed the victory and helped John Jay advance to the semifinals. 
 
The Bloodhounds hit .250 over the three sets. John Jay racked up a total of 52 points while recording 36 kills and 16 aces.
