Men's Basketball Earns Wire-To-Wire Home Victory Over Medgar Evers On Senior Day

New York, NY - The John Jay men's basketball team had four players score in double-figures, led by three seniors as the Bloodhounds earned a wire-to-wire home victory, 81-65, on Senior Day.

Before the start of the contest, the Bloodhounds recognized their senior class of Joel-Anthony Alleyne, Garrison Watkins, Mikhail Leston, Dan Kenny, and Corey Jones Jr.

"Today was all about those five seniors, and they set the tone from the jump," commented head coach Ryan Hyland. "To have all five families there to celebrate their commitment for the past four years was wonderful and a true testament to the families and players we want to have in our program," added Hyland.

Watkins and Kenny each registered double-doubles, with Watkins scoring a game-high 18 points and pulling down ten rebounds. He also dished out six assists in 36 minutes.

Kenny notched his 11th double-double of the year and fourth of the season, after pouring in 13 points on 6 of 7 shooting and matching Watkins with ten rebounds.

Jones Jr. and Jayson Delgado each finished with 11 points on the night on a combined 8 of 20 shooting from the floor and 6 of 13 from beyond the arc.

Three Cougars finished in double-digits with Mousa Sinera and Dimitri Weeks each scoring 15 points while Sinera pulled down 23 rebounds, 19 of which on the defensive end.

Joshua Jean Pierre chipped in 12 points on 4 of 9 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds in 28 minutes.

John Jay jumped out to a 8-0 following a Leston three-pointer after receiving the pass from Jones, Jr.

The Bloodhounds erupted on a 19-8 run that increased the lead to 27-8 following a Delgado triple at the 10:16 mark.

A third run by the Bloodhounds, this one a 15-7 spurt, elevated the lead to 42-15, following a three-pointer from Jordan Evelyn.

The Cougars closed out the first half on a 12-7 run of their own, but the Bloodhounds entered the break with a 22-point advantage, 49-27, after shooting 55.6 percent from the floor and 53.3 from three-point range.

When play resumed for the second half, the visitors outscored the Bloodhounds, 13-8, to trim the deficit down to 57-40, following a Watkins jumper.

John Jay halted the comeback attempt as Jamir Stewart hit on a three-pointer from the left wing that pushed the lead back to 16, 67-51.

The two teams split the final 28 points, 14-14, as Evelyn sank a pair of free-throws at the 1:26 mark for the final points of the game as the Bloodhounds held on for double-digit win.

John Jay shot 44.8 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point range on the night. The Bloodhounds defense held Medgar Evers to just 21.7 percent from the outside.

John Jay closes out the regular season on Tuesday, February 14, as they travel to Baruch for a 7:30 p.m. start.
