Milestone Performances From Katie Healy And Chayanne Kelly Propel Women's Hoops To Victory On Senior Day Over Medgar Evers

New York, NY - The John Jay women's basketball team concluded their home regular season slate on Saturday afternoon, defeating the visiting Medgar Evers Cougars, 105-34, on Senior Day. 
 
Before the start of the contest, the Bloodhounds honored their five seniors in a pregame ceremony: Jordyn Ruiz, Victoria Brown, Bobbi Green, Katie Healy, and Chayanne Kelly
 

 
A total of six Bloodhounds finished in double-figures on the afternoon, with all five seniors scoring in double-figures. 
 
Kelly had a stellar Senior Day, registering her first career triple-double as the Harlem, NY native tallied a team-high 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting while pulling down a team-leading 11 caroms and dishing out 11 assists in 27 minutes of play. 
 
Kamryn Hammond matched Kelly with 17 points off-the-bench, converting on 6 of 12 from the floor while netting a season-high five three-pointers on ten chances. The Poughkeepsie, NY grabbed seven rebounds in 19 minutes. 
 
Victoria Brown posted her second double-figure scoring game of the season, finishing with 16 points on 6 of 12 shooting while dishing out four helpers, grabbing three steals and pulling down three rebounds. 
 
Katie Healy produced another milestone moment in her illustrious Bloodhound career, as the Merrick, NY native scored 14 points on 7 of 13 shooting while securing six rebounds, dishing out seven helpers and adding six assists. 
 
At the 3:49 mark of the third quarter, she moved into sole possession of second-place on the John Jay women's basketball all-time scoring list with 1,529 career points. 
 

 
Jordyn Ruiz registered her first career double-double, notching 13 points and recording 10 steals in 26 minutes of play. 
 
Bobbi Green concluded her final home regular-season contest with 10 points and five rebounds in 13 minutes of action. 
 
"So many great things happened on a special day for some of our seniors," commented head coach Lynda Day. "Jordyn's double-double with 10 steals, a season-high scoring total for Victoria, a triple-double for Chayanne, and Katie moving into second all-time in points was a great way to end our regular season games at The Doghouse." 
 
Jennifer Metra led the way for the visitors with nine points and six rebounds in 37 minutes of play. 
 
John Jay opened the contest on a 17-0 run, capped by a Ruiz layup off the feed from Kelly at the 5:15 mark. The Bloodhounds converted on 7 of 13 to start the game with Ruiz accounting for six of the first 17 points. 
 
Metra halted the run with a jumper and completed the three-point play from the free-throw line. John Jay concluded the stanza scoring eight of the final 13 points points in taking a 25-8 lead. 
 
The Cougars opened with five straight points to commence the second quarter before the Bloodhounds built a 30-point cushion, 51-21, on the heels of a 26-8 outburst, in which John Jay converted on 12 of 17 from the floor and recorded six steals on ten Cougar turnovers. 
 
Ruiz banked home a three-pointer from the top-of-the-key as the Bloodhounds entered the break with a 32-point lead. 
 
John Jay shot 53.5 percent in the opening half while holding a 23-12 edge on the boards and dished out 20 assists. 
 
The Bloodhounds kicked started the third quarter with a 14-2 outburst, as Kelly served as the catalyst, scoring six of the 14 points over the first four minutes. 
 
Healy hit on a layup at the five-minute mark, that brought her to within two points of moving into second-place on the all-time career points list.
 
Sheily Quezada halted the run briefly before Healy connected on a mid-range jumper for the historic moment. 
 

 
The Bloodhounds closed out the frame on a 10-0 run as the lead swelled to 56, 82-26. 
 
John Jay reached the 100-point plateau for the first time this season after outscoring Medgar Evers, 23-8, in the final frame. 
 
For the game, the Bloodhounds shot 54.7 percent from the field while hitting on 43.8 percent from three-point range. 
 
John Jay held a 55-23 advantage on the boards, corralling 22 offensive rebounds. 
 
The Bloodhounds forced 36 turnovers and capitalized by scoring 52 points off those mishaps. 
 
John Jay closes out the 2022-23 regular season on Tuesday evening as they will travel to Baruch for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
