Men's Volleyball Drops A Pair Of Matches On Saturday

Quincy, MA - The John Jay men's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to Eastern Nazarene and 3-0 to Regis (MA) as part of a tri-match. 
 
The Bloodhounds fall 4-5 overall on the season while the Lions of Eastern Nazarene move to 6-6 while the Pride moves to 5-6 on the season.

Jack Nugent, Akashdeep Singh, and Kyle Barriffe-Johnson each recorded eight kills in the opening match against Eastern Nazarene. 
 
Alex Bridgelall finished with a double-double, recording a double-double, finishing with 24 assists and 10 digs. Logan Ramos added ten digs and six kills. 
 
Nathan Jacques paced Eastern Nazarene with 24 assists, eight kills, six digs, and two aces. Alejandro Garcia Fernandez notched seven aces, six kills, and five digs. 
 
Both teams opened the first set neck and neck before ENC started to pull away, 11-7, thanks to a service error. 
 
The Bloodhounds rallied on a 5-1 run to tie the set at 12-12 following an attack error. The Lions used a 6-3 outburst in building a 19-17 edge, but the relentless Bloodhounds came back, with back-to-back kills from Barriffe-Johnson and Singh, tying the match at 19. 
 
Two straight kills by Eastern Nazarene pushed their lead to 21-19, but another kill from Barriffe-Johnson kept John Jay in the match. A pair of attack errors sailed the first set for the Lions. 
 
In the second set, the Bloodhounds jumped out to an early 6-4 lead following a service ace by Ramos.
 
ENC took a two-point lead, 11-9, following a kill by Ian Pacheco. Later in the set, the Lions extended the lead to three, 17-14, following a service error. 
 
John Jay rattled off six straight points to retake the lead at 20-17. The two teams traded off points until a service error by Jacques gave the Bloodhounds the set, tying the match at 1-1. 
 
Eastern Nazarene jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third set before upping their lead to 12-8 on an attack error. 
 
The Lions closed out the set on a 6-2 outburst, capped by a kill from Nick Thibeau to clinch a 25-18 win and going 2-1 in the overall match. 
 
In what turned out to be the final set of the match, Eastern Nazarene raced out to a 4-1 lead, thanks to an ace by Jacques. 
 
The Lions secured 13 straight points in building a 15-point edge before a kill by Jeferson Avila halted the run. 
 
Eastern Nazarene closed out the match with a 8-2 outburst to claim the win. 
 
John Jay 0, Regis 3
Singh led the way for the Bloodhounds with six kills, three digs and an ace against the Pride. Barriffe Johnson and Nugent added five kills apiece with Nugent and Stephen Daly recording a team-high four digs. Maxwell Law notched 13 assists, two kills, and an ace. 
 
Joseph Perez paced Regis with nine kills and three digs. Logan Sras and Orlando Plagata had seven kills. Tyrell Bucasas notched 26 assists while Marcello Cappuccio led the way with six digs. 
 
The Pride jumped out to a 3-1 edge before upping their advantage to 10-7 following a kill by Sras. John Jay rattled off three straight points to even the set at 10-10, thanks to a second straight ace by Alex Bridgelall
 
The Bloodhounds managed to tie the set at 12, Regis staged a 10-3 run, running the lead to 22-15 after Perez recorded an ace of his own. 
 
The Pride closed out the set via an attack error to take a 1-0 lead in the overall match. 
 
The second set commenced with both teams trading off points before the Pride went ahead by two, 8-5, thanks to an attack error. 
 
Regis carried the momentum on the strength of a 10-2 run that saw the score balloon to 20-9 after Sras recorded another kill before closing out the set on a 5-2 burst. 
 
John Jay claimed a slim 6-3 lead to start the third set before Regis rallied back with four straight points to take a 7-6 lead. 
 
The Bloodhounds went back to work, regaining the lead at 10-7 following an ace from Singh but was quickly answered with three straight points by the Pride. 
 
Regis went up 16-12 on a kill by Plagata just before the visitors narrowly tied the match, 16-15, after a kill from Singh. 
 
The Pride concluded the match with a 9-4 run, sealed by an attack error as the Bloodhounds dropped their second match of the day. 
 
John Jay returns home to host their tri-match on Saturday, February 25, as they will welcome Lehman for their first CUNYAC home tilt of the season at 11:00 a.m. before hosting Mount Saint Vincent at 3:00 p.m.
