Men's Volleyball Earns Two Wins During Saturday's Home Tri-Meet Against Lehman And Mount Saint Vincent

New York, NY - The John Jay College men's volleyball team earned a pair of wins during their home tri-match on Saturday afternoon, defeating fellow CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) member, Lehman, 3-0 and visiting Mount Saint Vincent 3-0. 
 
The Bloodhounds move to 6-5 overall and with the win over the Lightning, improve to 1-1 in conference play. Add records of Lehman and CMSV.

In the CUNYAC home opener for the Bloodhounds, John Jay was paced by Stephen Daly, who registered 14 kills and seven digs. 
 
Jeferson Avila led the way with eight digs and four kills while adding an ace. Logan Ramos produced four aces and two digs in the opening set while adding three kills. 
 
Stephen De Stefani posted six kills while Kyle Barriffe Johnson recorded five kills, two digs, a block, and an ace. Maxwell Law had 14 assists. 
 
Christian Agudo had nine assists, five digs, and three kills for the visiting Lightning. Jimmy Evans led the way with eight digs.
 
John Jay raced out to a fast start in the opening set as Ramos recorded three straight aces before adding one more to put John Jay ahead, 6-0, forcing a Lehman timeout. 
 
Following a kill by Daly and Lehman getting on the board on a service error, the Bloodhounds went on a 5-0 run to go up 12-1, thanks to a kill by De Stefani. 
 
John Jay clinched the first set on a 13-4 run, capped on an attack error and block from Ramos and Barriffe-Johnson. 
 
The Lightning seized early control in the second set, jumping out to an 11-3 advantage, following a kill from Agudo, as the Bloodhounds called for time. 
 
A 10-2 run even the set at 13 after Barriffe-Johnson recorded the kill. Lehman extended their lead to 20-15 on an ace by Andrew Figueroa. John Jay finished the set with a 10-3 run on a kill by Avila to go up 2-0 in the match. 
 
In the third and final set, the two teams traded points in the early portion of the set before the Bloodhound increased the lead to 10-7 on a kill from Daly. 
 
Lehman tied the score at 12-12 before the Bloodhounds mustered six straight points, going up 18-12 on a bad set by Agudo. 
 
John Jay scored seven of the final 12 points as a kill by Barriffe-Johnson clinched the match for the Bloodhounds, giving John Jay their first CUNYAC win of the season and moving to 4-0 at home on the season.

The Bloodhounds raced out to an early 6-1 lead after Avila recorded the kill in the first set. 
 
The Dolphins mounted a comeback, trailing by just three, 13-10, after a service error by the Bloodhounds, but John Jay closed out the first set on a 12-10 run, capped by a bad set from Samuel Martinez to give the home team a 1-0 lead after posting a 25-20 win. 
 
The Bloodhounds went ahed by four, 8-4, thanks to a service ace from Carlos Llivicura, in the second set. 
 
CMSV staged a 11-5 run in taking a 15-13 lead before De Stefani killed off the rally and Llivicura recorded another ace to make it 15-15. 
 
John Jay concluded the second set with 10-7 outburst following a service error by Martinez. 
 
The Bloodhounds carried the momentum into the final set, as they defeated the Dolphins, 25-6, as Jack Nugent closed out the match with three straight aces. 
 
Logan Ramos recorded a double-double against the Dolphins, finishing with 11 kills and 10 digs. Avila registered nine kills and nine digs in the win while Law served up 31 assists. 
 
The Bloodhounds resumes CUNYAC play on Tuesday, Feb. 28 with a road tilt at CCNY.
