Healy Registers 60th Career Double-Double In John Jay's Second Straight Wire-To-Wire Victory Over Lehman

Bronx, NY - The John Jay women's basketball team notched their second straight wire-to-wire victory, defeating the Lehman College Lightning, 73-61, on Wednesday evening. 
 
 
With the triumph, the Bloodhounds improve to 15-8 on the season and 9-3 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play while Lehman falls to 8-15 and 4-8 in the conference. 

"A strong start by Katie (Healy) in the first half with a double-double set the tone for us in tonight's game," commented head coach Lynda Day. "Jordyn's (Ruiz) vision throughout the game got us some wide open looks in transition. Additionally, we got significant production from Tiffany (Bogle) and Victoria (Brown) proved to be instrumental for us." 
 
Senior forward Katie Healy recorded her 60th career double-double in the road victory, finishing with a team-high 20 points on 8 of 13 shooting while pulling down a team-best 17 rebounds, 11 of which coming on the defensive end. 
 
The Merrick, NY native currently is the NCAA Division III active leader in career double doubles with 60. Additionally, the veteran Bloodhounds forward is the active Division III leader in steals with 300 after collecting two more this evening while also ranking fifth in rebounds with 1,079.  
 
Tiffany Bogle chipped in 10 points on 4 of 7 shooting while pulling down seven rebounds and adding a block in her 19 minutes of action. 
 

 
Jordyn Ruiz and Victoria Brown each added nine points on a combined a 8 of 16 shooting from the floor. Ruiz grabbed five rebounds while dishing out a team-high five helpers. 
 
Brianna Barnes led all scorers on the night with 28 points on 9 of 23 shooting while also hitting on 9 of 11 from the free-throw line. She also recorded a double-double, corralling 14 rebounds and added four assists in 33 minutes. 
 
Myandra Duquesnay also hit for double-digits, finishing with 10 points on 5 of 15 shooting while grabbing four rebounds, dishing out three assists, and swiping a team-best three steals in 34 minutes. 
 
John Jay jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after back-to-back buckets from Jordyn Ruiz and Tiffany Bogle
 
The two teams traded off baskets over the next two minutes with the Bloodhounds taking an 11-7 lead following a pair of made free-throws from Kamryn Hammond
 
Over the final 4:38, the visitors scored six of the final ten points in building a six-point advantage, 17-11, after Victoria Brown converted on a layup with 48 seconds remaining on the clock. 
 
The Lightning narrowed the gap in the early portion of the second quarter after Barnes hit two from the free-throw line, making it 17-13. 
 
A 10-0 run orchestrated by the visitors increased the lead to 27-13 following a Brown layup with 6:31 remaining in the period before Duquesnay halted the run with a layup of her own. 
 
Lehman outscored John Jay, 11-9, down the stretch, but the Bloodhounds headed to the locker room with a ten-point advantage, 36-26. 
 
In the second quarter, the Bloodhounds outscored the Lightning, 19-15, while converting on 47.1 percent from the field (8 of 17) while holing a 15-9 edge on the boards. 
 
The momentum carried over into the third quarter for the Bloodhounds, commencing the stanza on a 14-4 run, with the trio of Bogle, Kamryn Hammond and Healy combining to score 10 of the 14 points, with Healy's triple extending the John Jay lead to 50-30 at the 5:37 mark. 
 
The home team began to climb their way back into the contest, closing out the third quarter scoring 13 of the final 23 points with the visitors holding a 60-43 advantage despite Barnes leading the charge for the Lightning, scoring nine of the 13 points over the final five minutes. 
 
Lehman opened the fourth quarter with a 5 of 9 start on the strength of a 11-6 run, cutting the deficit down to 12, 66-54, following a Valentin jumper. 
 
The two teams each split the final 14 points of the game as John Jay held on for the 73-61 road triumph. 
 
The Bloodhounds converted on 46.0 percent from the field for the game (29 of 63) while outrebounding the Lightning, 55-38, on the glass with a 38-21 advantage on the defensive end. 
 
John Jay will host their regular-season home finale on Saturday, February 11, as the Bloodhounds welcomes Medgar Evers on Senior Day. 
 
Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. Before the start of the contest, the Bloodhounds will honor their five seniors in a pre-game ceremony: Bobbi Green, Katie Healy, Chayanne Kelly, Victoria Brown, and Jordyn Ruiz
