Men's Volleyball Earns Second Straight Home Victory; Blanks Purchase On Thursday

New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team earned their second straight home victory on Thursday, blanking Purchase College, 3-0 (25-15; 25-16; 25-18) at The Doghouse. 
 

The Bloodhounds move to 2-1 on the young season while the Panthers fall to 2-4. 
 

Stephen De Stefani and Akashdeep Singh led the way with seven kills while Alex Bridgelall and Maxwell Law notched 19 and 12 assists, respectively. Bridgelall added a team-leading three aces and four digs in the contest. 
 


Marcus Gargiulo led the Panthers with six kills and three blocks while Idris Idris had 12 assists and three digs. 

John Jay raced out to a 7-1 advantage following an ace from Logan Ramos before Jasper Zeray recorded the kill. Purchase rallied, cutting the deficit to two, 15-13, following an attack error by De Stefani, but the Bloodhounds staged a 7-0 run in taking a 23-13 lead following a kill by Daly. Jack Nugent recorded the kill to seal the set for Bloodhounds, giving John Jay a 1-0 lead in the overall match. 

The Bloodhounds carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead, as Bridgelall recorded three straight aces to open the second set. John Jay sparked an 8-0 run to build the lead to 13-3, following an attack error from Gargiulo, that prompted a timeout by the visitors. Purchase climbed back into the set thanks to an 8-4 outburst in trimming the John Jay lead to six, 16-10, following a kill from Idris. The Bloodhounds wrapped up the second set with a 9-6 run after three straight kills from De Stefani, as John Jay went ahead 2-0. 

In the third set, the Bloodhounds trailed 6-1, but a kill from Singh stopped the run by the Panthers. The Bloodhounds outscored the Panthers, 15-10, to tie the set at 16-16 following a kill from Singh that shifted the momentum in favor of John Jay. John Jay closed the match on a 9-2 outburst, as Rudy Janga concluded the match with a kill. 

The Bloodhounds will compete in their first tri-match of the season, as they will travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA to square off against Bryn Athyn at 12:00 p.m. and the host Wiles University at 2:00 p.m.
