CCNY seized control of the momentum early in the first set, jumping out to an early 7-2 lead following a ball handling error by the Bloodhounds. The Beavers lead swelled to eight, 19-11, following a kill by Tenzin Tsepak.

The Bloodhounds started to rally back, cutting the deficit to 20-15 thanks to an attack error, but CCNY closed out the set on a 5-1 run, capped by a Celis kill.

In the second set, John Jay came out on fire, building a 5-1 lead after an attack error from Celis. CCNY responded with a 13-9 run of their own to tie the set at 14-14. The two teams traded points until Li recorded the kill as the Beavers posted a 25-22 win, going up 2-0 in the overall match.

Similar to the start of the second set, John Jay came out to a 6-2 lead and continued to increase their advantage, taking a 10-point lead, 17-7, thanks to a kill from Nugent. The Bloodhounds scored eight of the final 13 points in the set to force a fourth-set.

The Bloodhounds carried that wave of momentum into the start of the fourth set, cruising to an early 9-3 lead thanks to a service error by Ethan Sherpa. CCNY found themselves trailing by two, 16-14, after Li recorded another kill for the visitors. Avila recorded the kill on a block error from Cristian Canela, setting up set point as David Galvez had a service error, which tied the match at 2-2, heading to the deciding fifth set.

In the deciding set, the two teams went back and forth trading points before the Bloodhounds claimed a slim 7-3 lead, which led to a CCNY timeout.

Following the pause in the action, the Beavers ignited an 9-4 run of their own, knotting the set at 12-12 following an ace by Sherpa. Nugent stepped up big for the Bloodhounds, recording the kill that gave possession back to John Jay before Stephen Daly notched a kill that setup match point.

An attack error from Daly gave CCNY a chance to rally back but Kyle Barriffe-Johnson stopped that chance with an emphatic kill, that sent the Bloodhounds' bench into frenzy as John Jay completed the comeback.

John Jay will hit the road for their final non-conference matches of the 2023 regular season, as the Bloodhounds will take on SUNY Potsdam and Bard College on Sunday, March 26 in a tri-match, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
