Men's Volleyball Extends Win Streak To Five Consecutive With Road Conference Win At Medgar Evers

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team continued their winning ways on Tuesday evening as the Bloodhounds shutout Medgar Evers, 3-0 (25-17; 25-11; 25-21) to extend their win streak to five straight. 
 
The Bloodhounds (9-5; 3-1 CUNYAC) were paced by Jack Nugent, who finished with a team-high 10 kills. Kyle Barriffe Johnson added eight kills, two aces and a dig. Jeferson Avila finished with seven kills and two digs on the night. 
 
Sebastiann Perez led Medgar Evers (3-4; 1-3 CUNYAC) with 10 kills and added six digs while Carlos Abreu finished with a seven kills and a team-leading 10 digs. Austin Romeo registered 19 assists for the Cougars. 
 
John Jay raced out to an early 9-3 advantage in the first set after an attack error by Perez. The Bloodhounds carried much of the momentum, using an 11-6 outburst to build a 20-9 lead after Alex Bridgelall recorded an ace. 
 
Medgar Evers did outscore John Jay, 8-5, but the Bloodhounds were able to seal the first point of the match thanks to a Nugent kill. 
 
The second set started out evenly-paced, with John Jay holding a slim 5-3 led following a kill by Abreu. 
 
The Bloodhounds staged a 10-1 run that saw the lead increase to 20-9 as Barriffe-Johnson recorded the kill. The visitors scored the final five points to go up 2-0. 
 
The Cougars kept pace with the Bloodhounds in the third set. Both teams traded points before Medgar Evers rallied, scoring five of seven points that saw the Cougars take a 17-16 lead, as Perez killed the rally from Steven Ajazi
 
John Jay closed out the match with nine of the final 13 points in the match thanks to an attack error by Kelcity Blacky after Evan Wandersee sent the ball over. 
 
The Bloodhounds will look for their sixth straight win and remain perfect at The Doghouse this season (5-0) as CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) continues Thursday, with John Jay playing host to the Baruch College Bearcats. 
 
First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
