Men's Volleyball Concludes Regular Season; Blanks Brooklyn On Senior Night

New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team closed out the 2023 regular season on Thursday evening at The Doghouse, defeating Brooklyn College, 3-0 (25-13; 25-13; 25-21) on Senior Night. 
 
Before the start of the match, the Bloodhounds honored their four seniors - Carlos Lluvicura, Rudy Janga, Bryce Jasper, and Jack Nugent.
 
 
Nugent finished with a team-high four blocks while Alex Bridgelall tallied a team-leading 13 assists on the evening. 
 
Jeferson Avila and Kyle Barriffe-Johnson each finished with five kills while Logan Ramos, Daniel Gonzalez Verdejo, and Lluvicura each recorded an ace. 
 
Tommy Min registered a team-high eight kills for Brooklyn while David Lema paced the Bulldogs with 18 assists and Dion Csikortos concluded the match with a team-leading five digs. 
 
The two teams traded points early in the first set, as the set was tied at 7-7 following a service error by Brooklyn's Andres Vargas.
 
From that point, the Bloodhounds staged a 13-2 run, capped off by an attack error from Jiaian Flanders that made it 20-9 in favor of John Jay. 
 
Akashdeep Singh notched the set-ending kill as the Bloodhounds went up 1-0 in the match. 
 
John Jay carried that momentum with them into the second set, jumping out to 10-5 lead following a block on the attack error by Stephen De Stefani and Barriffe-Johnson. 
 
Outscoring the Bulldogs 15-7 down the stretch, Stephen Daly sealed the second set with an emphatic ace. 
 
In the third set, the home team built a 12-7 lead following an attack error from Armand Kaloshi thanks to a block by Barriffe-Johnson and Bridgelall
 
Brooklyn crept their way back into the match, trailing by two, 15-13, following a kill from Min. 
 
The Bloodhounds jumped ahead by six, 21-15, thanks to a service error by Fidel Maldonado. The visitor hung tough, using a 6-3 spark to get to within three, 24-21, after an attack error by Nugent.
 
A service error by Flanders sealed the win for the Bloodhounds and put a close to the 2023 regular season. 
 
For the match, the Bloodhounds hit .273 to Brooklyn's -.183.
 
These two teams will meet again as the 2023 CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Championships open up on Tuesday, April 11, with the Bloodhounds, who will be the No. 3 seed, will host the No. 6 seed Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. from The Doghouse.
