Women's Volleyball Falls In Five Sets In Season Opener At FDU-Florham

Madison, NJ - The John Jay College women's volleyball team suffered a five-set defeat in their season opener on the road at FDU Florham, falling 3-2 (25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 22-25, 12-15) on Friday evening. 
 
Newcomer Josanne Lewis registered her first double-double in a Bloodhound uniform, recording a team-leading 25 kills while registering 10 digs. 
 
Meghan Smith also had a double-double, finishing the match with a game-high 48 assists while adding 14 digs. Kristin Gretener led the way for the Bloodhounds with 16 digs.
 
Charlotte Fruscione led the Devils with 21 digs while Arianna Wood added 12. Tori Carrico concluded the match with 17 assists and two aces. 
 
The Bloodhounds took an early 2-0 lead in the overall match after securing the first and second set victories. 
 
It was a back-and-forth third set for both teams, as the Bloodhounds recorded 15 kills in the set to just seven from FDU-Florham, but five service errors plagued the Bloodhounds as the Devils were able to get by, 25-23, to extend the match. 
 
In the fourth set, FDU's Gabbie Hart service error gave the visitors a 13-11 lead, but the Devils rallied, staging a 14-10 run of their own in picking up a 25-22 win to force a deciding fifth set. 
 
In the deciding set, John Jay doubled up FDU-Florham, 8-4, thanks to a block from Faith Harer and Paige Sadowitz. 
 
The Devils closed out the match on an 11-5 run as Hart's kill from Gianna Buscarino secured the win. 
 
The Bloodhounds will close out their two-match road swing on Wednesday, September 6, as they will travel to Riverdale, NY to tangle with Mount Saint Vincent at 7:00 p.m.
