Women's Volleyball Remains Undefeated In CUNYAC Play With Sweep Of Lehman On Thursday

New York, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to five straight with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-6) home triumph over Lehman on Thursday evening at The Doghouse. 
 

 
With the victory, the Bloodhounds move to 5-1; 3-0 CUNYAC on the season while also extending their winning streak over the Lightning (1-4; 0-1 CUNYAC) to 11 straight, which dates back to October 9, 2015, a 3-2 victory in Kings Point, NY at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Multi-Match. 
 
Josanne Lewis led the way for the Bloodhounds with 14 kills and seven digs. Reilly Catan served up eight aces in her two sets of action. Hailey Waugaman registered six kills and a dig. Kristin Gretener paced John Jay with ten digs. Meghan Smith recorded 20 assists in the three-set victory. 
 
Melissa Santos paced Lehman with three kills. Ana Mena had a team-high four assists while Ariana Calderon added a team-high six digs for the visitors. 
 
First Set - Both teams traded points to start the much, with the Bloodhounds clinging to a 6-4 advantage following a kill from Madison Reyes. John Jay strung together an 18-4 run in building a 24-8 lead as Catan recorded six aces during the run. Lewis sealed the point for the Bloodhounds with a kill. 
 
Second Set - Similar to the first set, the visiting Lightning stayed in the match early, cutting their deficit to two, 6-4, on an attack error. From there, it was a second 18-4 outburst that help sealed the second set victory, as Malia Reyes served up two straight aces before an attack error from Lehman gave the set point to the Bloodhounds. 
 
Third Set - In the final set, it was all John Jay, racing out to a 10-2 lead on a second service ace from Paige Sadowitz. The Bloodhounds finished the match on a 15-4 run, with Malia Reyes tacking on three more aces and Hannah Knox recorded the match point kill for John Jay's fifth-straight win. 
 
The Bloodhounds hit .492 for the match while recording a total of 31 assists and producing 23 aces. 
 
John Jay closes out the homestand on Tuesday, September 19 as they will welcome the CCNY Beavers to The Doghouse, with match time set for 7:00 p.m.
