Women's Volleyball Continues Winning Ways In Non-Conference Action; Blanks Pratt On The Road On Wednesday

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team collected their third straight win on Wednesday evening, shutting out Pratt Institute, 3-0, on the road. 
 
With the victory, the Bloodhounds improve to 9-2 overall while the Cannoneers falter to 3-7. 
 

 
Josanne Lewis narrowly registered a double-double on the night, as she finished with a team-leading 17 digs to go along with a team-high nine kills. The St. Johns, Antigua native also had three service aces. 
 
Aniko Ouwendijk and Faith Harer each had eight kills while Taylor Hunt added seven digs. Meghan Smith finished with 20 assists in the match, running her career total to 1,481 assists. 
 
Olivia Julich paced Pratt with a team-leading nine kills, eight digs and three aces. Emma Leavey notched a team-best ten digs while Gabby Genduso concluded the night with 19 assists. 
 
First Set - The opening set went back-and-forth. John Jay went up 5-3 following a kill from Lewis before Pratt answered back with three points to take a 6-5 lead. 
 
The Bloodhounds responded with three straight points, capped by a Lewis kill that made it 8-6. The visitors held a 14-12 advantage following a pair of aces from Hunt before the Cannoneers sparked a 6-0 run, in taking a 18-14 lead, capped by a kill from Zeynap Akgol from Genduso. 
 
Following a timeout called by John Jay, the Bloodhounds rallied with six points of their own, taking a 20-18 lead after an attack error. 
 
The two teams traded points before Colleen Russell knotted the set at 24 with a kill. An attack error by Emily Sontag established set point for the Bloodhounds and Ouwendijk sealed the first point with a kill, as John Jay took the set, 26-24. 
 
Second Set - The two teams opened the second set in similar fashion to the first set, with the Cannoneers taking a 5-4 lead on an ace from Julich. 
 
With the set tied at 8-8, the Bloodhounds staged a 6-0 run to build a 14-8 lead on Pratt. The home team responded with four points, cutting the deficit down to two, 14-12, following an attack error. 
 
John Jay recorded 11 of the final 17 points, as a bad set from Russell gave the deciding point to the Bloodhounds, who went up 2-0 in the overall match. 
 
Third Set - John Jay doubled up Pratt, 6-3, to open the third set. The Bloodhounds pushed their lead to 13-8 following an ace from Lewis. 
 
The visitors continued to build on the momentum, as Harer recorded the kill to make it 17-11 in favor of John Jay. 
 
John Jay sealed the match as Genduso misfired on her delivery on serve, giving the Bloodhounds their third straight win. 
 
The Bloodhounds will have a quick turnaround as they will square off in non-conference action against Brooklyn College. 
 
First-serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
