Women's Volleyball Nets Fourth Straight Victory In Road Triumph Over Brooklyn On Thursday

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball continued their winning ways, earning a 3-1 (25-15; 21-25; 25-11; 25-18) road non-conference triumph over Brooklyn College on Thursday evening.

With the victory, the Bloodhounds, winners of four straight, stand at 10-2 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 4-6 overall.

Tonight's win snapped a five-match losing streak to the Bulldogs, with John Jay's last victory coming back on November 2, 2018 in the semifinals of the CUNYAC Championships, also a 3-1 win. Additionally, this evening's contest marked the 39th all-time meeting between the two schools, as the Bloodhounds are now 25-14 all-time against their CUNYAC rival.

Josanne Lewis registered a double-double, concluding the contest with a match-high 19 kills to go along with ten digs. Faith Harer notched a team-best 13 digs while adding six kills.

Taylor Hunt racked up 12 digs and a team-pacing six aces. Meghan Smith joined Lewis in recording a double-double, finishing with 35 assists and 11 digs. Paige Sadowitz registered four blocks in the victory.

Brooklyn was paced by Aleah Rafat, who notched 10 kills and a Bulldog-high 13 digs. Ruti Joshi added 11 digs while Amra Mulic finished with ten assists.

First Set - The visitors wasted little time in setting the tune in the opening set, jumping out to a 11-3 lead thanks to three straight aces from Hunt. The Bloodhounds doubled up their lead, 16-8, after CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, Hailey Waugaman, recorded the kill from Smith. John Jay closed out the set scoring nine of the final 16 points, as Lewis sealed the set with a kill.

Second Set - Both teams traded points over the opening moments of the set before the tempo of the contest shifted in favor of the Bulldogs, as they orchestrated an 11-6 outburst to run the score to 16-10 after scoring the point on a ball handling error. The Bloodhounds managed to rally back, outscoring Brooklyn, 11-9, down the stretch, but Sydney Gdanski tied the match with a kill as the Bulldogs earned a 25-21 win.

Third Set - Both teams went back-and-forth in the third set with the home Bulldogs tying the match at 11-11 following a service error. From that point, it was all John Jay, staging a 14-0 run as Lewis went to record five kills to power the Bloodhounds to a 25-11 victory in the set. John Jay's hitting percentage in the third set was the highest for the match, connecting at a .435 clip while only committing two attack errors.

Fourth Set - The fourth set began like the previous two, as both teams were pitted in stalemate until John Jay created some separation, as Malia Reyes recorded three aces, upping the lead to 18-12 before Lewis added another kill. Brooklyn staged a late comeback, narrowing the gap to 23-18, but an attack error from Gdanski and a kill from Waugaman propelled the Bloodhounds to their fourth straight win.

The Bloodhounds return home for a pair of non-conference matches, beginning on Tuesday, October 3, as they welcome Cairn to The Doghouse.

First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
