Men's Hoops Drops CUNYAC Home Tilt Against Lehman On Saturday

New York, NY - Both the John Jay men's basketball team and their opposition, the Lehman College Lightning, were pitted in a back-and-forth contest in the first half but the visitors outscored the Bloodhounds, 24-15, over a nine-minute span that lifted Lehman past John Jay, 85-69, on Saturday afternoon. 
 
With the loss, the Bloodhounds fall to 5-11 overall and 1-4 in CUNYAC play while the Lightning remain undefeated in league contests at 5-0, while improving to 9-6 overall. 
 
Two Bloodhounds reached double figures, led by Isaac Holmes, who poured in a game-high 25 points on 10 of 17 shooting from the perimeter. 
 
Garrison Watkins netted 17 points on an efficient 8 of 15 shooting from the field while grabbing a team-high six rebounds, dishing out four assists and recording two steals. 
 
Kai Parris led three Lightning players in double-figures, finishing with 22 points on 8 of 14 shooting while coming within two rebounds of a double-double (8) in his 38 minutes of play.
 
Jayden Stephens scored 18 points on a 7 of 14 shooting clip grabbed seven rebounds and distributed six assists in 38 minutes. 
 
Lasana Camara contributed 13 points on 5 of 10 from the field while securing seven rebounds and rejection a game-high five shots. 
 
The Bloodhounds raced out to a 6-2 lead with Watkins connecting on a pair of baskets for the home team. 
 
The two clubs exchanged buckets before Amar Ndiaye made a layup that increased the Lightning lead, 19-14, with 9:15 remaining in the first half.
 
Over the remaining portion of the half, the Bloodhounds outscored the Lightning, 23-18, as Holmes, Watkins and TJ Chisolm accounted for 18 of the 23 points during this run as the two teams entered the locker room tied at 37. 
 
Both teams shot over 45.0 percent in the opening half, with the Bloodhounds connecting at 48.5 percent (16 of 33). 
 
Lehman opened the second half on a 15-8 run, as they claimed a 54-46 lead as Parris made the frontend of a two-shot foul at the 15:05 mark. 
 
John Jay climbed back into the contest, cutting the deficit down to five, 60-55, as Holmes completed the three-point play from the free-throw line. 
 
The Lightning increased their lead, thanks to a 13-3 run over a 3:33 span that propelled Lehman to a 73-58 advantage after Elijah Avilla converted the layup off the feed from Cameron Burns. 
 
John Jay continued to work their way back into the contest, outscoring the visitors, 11-7, over a 3:38 timespan, as Watkins banked one off the window off the feed from Jordan Evelyn to cut the deficit, 80-69. 
 
The visitors scored the final five points as Lehman left with an 85-69 road triumph. 
 
John Jay was held to just 40.3 percent while Lehman hit on 51.6 percent from the field. The Lightning held a 40-33 edge on the boards while the Bloodhounds held a slim 12-11 offensive rebound edge. 
 
The Bloodhounds begin a three-game road swing commencing on Wednesday, January 17, as they will take on CCNY at 7:00 p.m.
