Women's Basketball Notches Fourth Straight Win In Road Tilt At CCNY On Wednesday

New York, NY - The John Jay women's basketball secured their fourth straight win on Wednesday evening, defeating the CCNY Beavers in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action, 78-45.
 
The Bloodhounds move to 10-6 on the season and 4-1 in league play while the Beavers fall to 1-11 and 0-5 in league play. 

Three John Jay players finished in double-figures, led by Chayanne Kelly, who tallied 19 points on 8 of 15 shooting while nearly posting a triple-double, finishing with eight rebounds and eight assists, both season-highs. Kamryn Hammond netted 17 points on 6 of 11 shooting from the field while hitting 3 of 5 from three-point range. Tiffany Bogle chipped in 12 point on an efficient 6 of 13 shooting from the floor in her 15 minutes of action. 

Sarah Granados and Natalie Simonds each finished with nine points. For Granados, it marked her season-high for points. 

Ashley Colon and Anna Vikatos each had 14 points to lead the way for the Beavers. Vikatos filled up the stat sheet for CCNY, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds, recorded five steals, had four blocks and two assists while playing the full forty. Kasia Morrison was the third CCNY player in double figures, as she finished the contest with 13 points on a 4 of 15 shooting clip. 

Colon connected on the first five points for CCNY before John Jay staged a 16-6 run following one of two from the line from reigning CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, Michaela Lattimore, that gave the visitors a 16-8 lead. The two teams split the final eight points of the opening stanza with John Jay holding a 20-12 lead after Tiffany Bogle hit on a jumper off the feed from Sarah Granados

CCNY got to within six to start the second quarter as Morrison drilled a jumper off the pass from Joscelyn Ramos that made it 20-14 in favor of the Bloodhounds. John Jay kept CCNY off the board over the next four minutes, staging an 11-0 run that increased their lead to 31-14 following a made layup by Kelly. During the run, the Bloodhounds connected on 5 of 9 from the field with Hammond contributing five of the 11 points during the spurt while not allowing a made CCNY field goal in six attempts. 

Morrison slowed down the run with a three-pointer at the 3:34 mark before the Bloodhounds closed out the frame with the final six points, as Bogle once again beat the horn with mid-range jumper, this time getting the pass from Natalie Simonds as John Jay entered the break with 37-17 advantage. The Bloodhounds shot 46.9 percent in the opening half, highlighted by converting on 61.5 percent in the opening quarter (8 of 13). 

John Jay opened the third quarter on an 11-4 run that increased their lead to 48-21 following a Hammond layup. Over the final 4:30 of the third quarter, both teams found their shooting touch, with CCNY hitting on 4 of 6 from the outside with Vikatos and Morrison each scoring six of the 12 points for the Beavers. The visitors converted on 6 of 9 over that stretch to up their lead to 61-33 entering the final quarter with Bogle leading the charge with six of the 13 points for John Jay. 

Kylie Robinson commenced the fourth quarter with a layup off the pass from Catherline McNeal that propelled the John Jay lead to 63-33. 
Robinson's basket kicked started a mini 8-2 run by the visitors, capped by Granados completing the traditional three-point play from the line which made it 69-35. CCNY scored 10 of the final 19 points over the final 5:06 but John Jay rolled to their fourth straight victory and 10th overall win of the season. 

The Bloodhounds shot 43.8 percent from the floor (32 of 73) while grabbing a season-high 65 rebounds, 38 of which coming on the defensive end. 

John Jay concludes the week on Friday evening, as the Bloodhounds travel to Brooklyn to square off against Medgar Evers. 

Tipoff is slated for 6:00 p.m.
