New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team commenced their 2024 season at The Doghouse on Wednesday, falling to the visiting Drew University Rangers, 3-0 (26-24; 25-22; 25-16).

The Bloodhounds (0-1) were paced by perennial CUNYAC All-Star selections, Logan Ramos and Kyle Barriffe-Johnson. Ramos registered nine kills and a block in notching ten points. Barriffe-Johnson finished with seven kills, an ace and a block.

Alex Bridgelall served up a team-leading 12 assists and three aces while adding five digs. Maxwell Law added eight assists and three digs. Newcomer Micah Rossman produced 11 digs in his first collegiate match.

Ephraim Smith paced the Rangers with ten kills and concluded the match with 11.5 points. Jacob Sledz tied Huriel Perez with a team-leading three aces while producing eight digs for the visitors. Perez finished with 18 assists and six digs.

First Set - The Bloodhounds jumped out to a 5-1 lead following a service error from Sledz. They extended the lead to 7-3 on an emphatic block by Ramos. The visitors staged a 13-7 run of their own in taking a slim 16-14 lead following a kill from Andrew DeHaime. Both teams traded points with Smith putting Drew in a position to close out the first set following a kill. John Jay called for time to halt the Rangers momentum. A service error from Law and a mishit by Steven Ajazi that was blocked by Jason Barbosa secured the win for the visitors.

Second Set - John Jay opened the second set in a similar fashion as Barriffe-Johnson served up an ace that gave the Bloodhounds a 6-2 advantage. Drew embarked on a 7-2 run, capped by an ace from Destan Llolla that gave the visitors a 9-8 edge. The teams continued to exchange points until Drew outscored John Jay, 10-5, in taking a 24-19 lead, thanks to a kill from Sledz. Bridgelall served up an ace that cut the deficit to three, 24-21, but the Rangers picked up the win following a service error by Bridgelall.

Third Set - Drew commenced the third set with three straight points on back to back aces from Sledz. John Jay responded with a 7-4 burst in taking an 8-7 lead but the Rangers concluded the contest on a 18-8 run in securing their second win of the season.
