New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team made it two wins in a row with a victory on Wednesday night, sweeping Bard, 3-0.
Akashdeep Singh and
Jeferson Avila-Macancela made instant impacts in their season debuts, combining for 14 kills in the win. Singh matched a game-high with 8 kills.
The Bloodhounds improve to 2-1 with the win, making it back-to-back victories for the week.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alex Bridgelall gave the Bloodhounds an early advantage in the first set, logging consecutive service aces on his initial trip to the back line.
Singh made his presence felt in the Bloodhounds' biggest scoring run of the first set, notching three kils in a 6-0 run that gave the hosts a 20-9 lead.
John Jay managed to hold the Raptors to just eight kills and a .077 hitting percentage, scoring a 25-16 first set win.
Bridgelall ensured the Bloodhounds never trailed in the second set, opening with another ace. Singh and Avila-Macancela continued to stack kills as the home team took a 4-1 lead. Kyle Bariffe-Johnson hit for a pair of his six kills just four points later to give his side an 8-5 advantage.
Bariffe-Johnson was credited with just one attack error on the night, hitting .600 with six kills.
Bridgelall continued to dole out the assists in the second set, with the five other Bloodhounds on the floor earning kills - including a pair from
Logan Ramos late to give a 22-17 advantage.
The Bloodhounds headed to the third set with a 25-18 win.
The John Jay attack rolled right in to the final set as Barrife-Johnson scored the first kill, followed by Bridgelall and a Ramos kill. The Bloodhounds lead reached as 10-3 to kick off the set.
The home team averaged 4.33 aces per set, a season high as their advantage reached double digits in the set. A 6-0 scoring streak pushed the advantage to 20-9 as a three-set win came into focus.
Ramos secured match point with the set from Bridgelall for a 25-16 third set win.
NEXT UP: The Bloodhounds hit the road for the first time this season, visiting Saint Elizabeth on Tuesday, Feb. 6. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
