Men's Volleyball Picks Up Third Straight Win On The Road; Blanks Saint Elizabeth On Tuesday Evening

Morristown, NJ - The John Jay men's volleyball team continued their winning ways, upping their win streak to three straight after blanking the Saint Elizabeth College Eagles, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-13), on Tuesday evening. 
 
The Bloodhounds move to 3-1 on the young season while the Eagles fall to 1-5. 
 
Jeferson Avila-Macancela led the way for the Bloodhounds with 11 kills while also recording three digs, two assists and a block to finish with 12 points on the evening. Akashdeep Singh added eight kills, nine digs, two aces and two total blocks. Logan Ramos served up 19 assists while concluding the match with six digs, three kills, and two aces. 

Kyle Barriffe-Johnson notched a team-high three blocks while adding six kills. Newcomer Micah Rossman paced John Jay with 13 digs, a new season-high for the first-year libero. 

Kodi Peters led the Eagles with seven kills, two digs, and an ace. Diego Rondon finished with a team-leading 11 assists while adding five digs. Jerry Chablay recorded 12 digs for the home team. 
 
First Set - The Bloodhounds took control of the set, jumping out to an early 4-2 advantage following a kill from Avila. Saint Elizabeth staged a 9-6 run to take an 11-10 lead before the visitors responded by outscoring the Eagles, 9-6, following an attack error from Peters. The two teams exchanged points with the set being knotted at 20-20 following a service error from Eusebio Veras. Evan Wandersee held serve to help push John Jay's lead to 23-20 before an attack error from Peters sealed the set for the Bloodhounds. 
 
Second Set - Saint Elizabeth held a slim 4-3 advantage on the Bloodhounds before John Jay answered back in the form of a 14-7 run that saw the lead swell to 17-11 as Singh recorded his second ace of the set. The Eagles trimmed the deficit down to 23-16 following a service error from Avila, but a kill from Ramos secured the set for the Bloodhounds, and gave the visitors a 2-0 lead in the overall match. 
 
Third Set - Momentum favored John Jay in the third and final set as the Bloodhounds raced out to a 9-3 lead after a mishit by Veras. Saint Elizabeth got two straight points, capped by an ace from Peters before John Jay ignited a 14-4 run to build a 23-9 lead as Johnson served up an ace. The Eagles held around but a block from Singh sealed the match for the visitors. 
 
John Jay returns home to The Doghouse on Friday, February 9, as the Bloodhounds open CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play against the CCNY Beavers. First-serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
