New York, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team continued its positive trend on Tuesday night, scoring a CUNY Athletic Conference win over the York College Cardinals.
The 3-0 win marks the Bloodhounds' 13th consecutive triumph over the Cardinals and makes two consecutive wins against CUNYAC foes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Josanne Lewis was the main driver of the Bloodhound offense in her lone set on the court. Lewis dominated from the left side, converting seven of her eight swings with seven kills and no errors.
Every Bloodhound, save the libero, recorded at least one kill in the opening set.
Madison Reyes was well on her way to a career-high mark with four first-set service aces.
John Jay hit a match-high .571 with a perfect sideout percentage, taking the first set, 25-7.
Another Bloodhound hit a career mark in the second set, as
Meghan Smith eclipsed 500 assists on the season for her fourth consecutive year.
Rylea Sandel and
Julia Stuart picked up where Lewis left off, combining for seven kills. The Bloodhound attack committed a match-high four errors in the middle frame, helping the Cardinals reach double-digit points for the only time in the match.
The team continued collecting aces in the second set, combining for 24 as a group. This marks the second time this season the Bloodhounds have scored at least 20 aces.
Nina Bongiovanni erupted late in the third set from the service line, scoring all seven of her team-high aces in the final frame.
Reilly Catan contributed four of the team's seven total kills in her lone set of action.
John Jay held York to just five points in the final set to score a 25-5 third set win.
