Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Road Tilt At NJAC Preseason Favorite, TCNJ, On Tuesday Evening

Ewing, NJ - The John Jay women's basketball team continued their three-game road swing with a stop in Ewing, NJ, on Tuesday evening, squaring off against NJAC preseason favorite and defending regular-season champions, TCNJ.
 
The Bloodhounds dropped a 92-59 decision to the Lions in their first-ever meeting. With the loss, John Jay fell to 1-1 in the season, while TCNJ opened their season with a victory.
 
Three Bloodhounds scored in double-figures, led by sophomore forward Michaela Lattimore, who registered a career-evening, dropping a team-high 24 points while pulling down a new career-best 14 rebounds. The Morristown, NJ native, playing an hour from her hometown, shot 12 of 23 from the field in 24 minutes of action.
 
Natalie Simonds notched her second straight double-digit scoring performance as the Durham, NH native tallied 11 points on 4 of 9 shooting in 25 minutes.
 
Newly-minted CUNYAC Player of the Week, Ashley Zeolla, was the third Bloodhound in double-figures, finishing the contest with 10 points on 5 of 11 shooting display.
 
Six Lions netted double-figures, led by Nina Branchizio, who connected for 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the field and blistering 6 of 9 from three-point range in 32 minutes.  Katie Fricker added 18 points in 28 minutes, while Arianna McCleod registered 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Grace Kowalski chipped in 12 points, with Myah Hourigan-Hutton and Brooke McFadden each adding 11 points on a combined 9 of 17 from the field while grabbing 12 rebounds, seven for Hourigan-Hutton.
 
Kowalski and Hourigan-Hutton dished out a game-high five assists, and Fricker recorded four steals for TCNJ.
 
The Lions found their rhythm from three-point range in the opening quarter, as TCNJ connected on 11 of 21 while hitting on 7 of 14 from the outside. After the first ten minutes, the Bloodhounds held a slim 11-9 edge on the boards.
 
The visitors continued to shoot at an efficient clip, finishing the second quarter shooting 47.1 percent, with Lattimore scoring eight of the 16 John Jay points.
 
Lattimore continued her scoring prowess in the third quarter, scoring another eight points, running her total to 20 points.

Zeolla and Lattimore paced the visitors down the stretch with 12 of the 17 points as John Jay finished the stanza shooting 7 of 15 from the field and forced four TCNJ turnovers in the quarter.
 
For the game, John Jay converted 41.3 percent from the field while both teams grabbed identical 38 rebounds.
 
Of the 59 Bloodhounds points, 36 came from inside the paint, adding another 14 on second-chance opportunities.
 
The road trip continues for the Bloodhounds as they will close out the three-game stint on Saturday, November 16, as they head to Bronxville, NY, to tangle with Sarah Lawrence.
 
Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
