NCAA BOUND! Women's Volleyball Will Face Washington And Lee University In First-Ever NCAA Tournament Regional Round Play On Thursday

Bloodhounds and Generals wiil faceoff at Christopher Newport, the host site for the first two rounds

Newport News, Vir. - The John Jay women's volleyball team will dance in Newport News, Vir.  For the first time in program history, the Bloodhounds will debut in an NCAA Tournament contest on Thursday, November 21, with a first-round match against Washington and Lee University at the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University.
 



John Jay is fresh off winning the 2024 CUNYAC Championship after defeating top-seed Hunter, 3-1, on Friday. The Bloodhounds are 22-6 this season and finished the conference slate at 6-1.

The Bloodhounds led the CUNYAC in several statistical categories this season, including assists per set (10.71), hitting percentage (.167), kills per set (11.48), and team total blocks (137). John Jay ranked second in all of Division III in opponents hitting percentage (.074), ninth in the country in aces per set (3.15), 21st in team services aces (293), and 34th in match win-loss percentage (.786). Individually, Josanne Lewis, the 2023 CUNYAC Player of the Year, ranked first in kills per set (3.51) and points per set (4.04). Meghan Smith was second in the league in assists per set (8.72) and total assists (663), while Paige Sadowitz led the conference in blocks per set (0.80).

Washington and Lee, ranked 12th in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Division III WVB Poll, won their second straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title and 20th overall after rallying back from a 2-1 deficit against Virginia Wesleyan this past Saturday. The Generals sport a 32-2 overall record and finished conference play 12-0. As a whole, Washington and Lee ranked fourth nationally in digs per set (20.32), fifth in match win-loss percentage (.0941) and team digs (2,357) while ranking among the top ten nationally in team assists (1,465), and team kills (1,562). Allie Buchholz was named the Player of the Year, while teammate Avery Myers was named the ODAC/Va. Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete. Head Coach Bryan Snyder was named the Coach of the Year. Buchholz earned her second straight First-Team selection after dishing out 1,073 assists with 10.22 assists per set, the 17th most in Division III. Grace Mitchener and Vivi Vasquez were also named to the ODAC First Team, while Riley Debiec earned the All-ODAC Second Team accolades for the second straight year.
