Women's Volleyball Sweeps Senior Night to Close Out Regular Season

New York, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team closed out the regular season on Thursday night, defeating the City College of New York (CCNY) Beavers, 3-0, in a non-conference match.

The Bloodhounds honored their seven seniors, Josanne Lewis, Reilly Catan, Meghan Smith, Madison Reyes, Paige Sadowitz, Rylea Sandel, and Kristin Gretener, prior to the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bloodhounds' seven seniors played wire-to-wire in the season-finale win.

The group struggled to get the match rolling in a positive direction, falling behind in the first set, 13-10, after an 8-1 run.

CCNY's lead grew as high as 19-15 before head coach Austin Voges called his first timeout.

The veteran lineup locked in after the break, wiping out the four-point deficit and giving up just two more to the Beavers, marching to a 25-__ win.

After trailing 3-2 to open the second set, the Bloodhounds responded with a 5-1 swing to take an 8-4 advantage and force a CCNY lineup.

Lewis scored a pair of back-to-back swings as part of a 6-0 run to go up by nine points. The Bloodhounds took advantage of nine hitting errors by the Beavers en route to a 25-12 second set win.

The same seven took the floor with the opportunity to win a match together. Trailing two, Catan scored a pair of kills as part of a 6-0 run that helped the Bloodhounds jump ahead 12-9.

An error-laden set by both sides allowed CCNY to climb back into the final frame late, tying the match at 21-all and again at 24-all.

The Bloodhounds scored the final two points to secure a 26-24 third-set win.

John Jay finished the regular season with a 20-6 record, finishing 6-1 in conference play. They earned the two seed for the CUNYAC Championship playoffs.

NEXT UP: The Bloodhounds host the CUNYAC semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7:00 p.m. against the winner of three-seed Brooklyn College and six-seed Lehman College.
