Stewart and Granda Impress in Road Win at St. Joseph's Brooklyn

Brooklyn, NY - Jamir Stewart and Syl Granda continued leading the way offensively for the John Jay men's basketball team, as the duo combined for 46 points in the Bloodhounds' win over St. Joseph's Brooklyn.
 

The 89-67 victory over the Bears moved John Jay to 6-3 on the season; marking the most wins through nine games for the program since the 2019-20 campaign.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Jamir Stewart gave the visitors their first lead of the game with just over seven minutes passed, splashing his first three-pointer of the day to put John Jay up 7-6.
 

The Bloodhounds' offense settled in just after the 12-minute mark in the first half, rattling off a 12-0 run backed by triples from Jeremiah Cardi and TJ Chisolm. Granda assisted on both of those made shots.
 

Granda scored a three of his own with just under seven minutes to play to push the advantage to 27-15. The Bloodhounds hit 7 of 14 attempts from distance in the first half.
 

John Jay notched its largest lead of the first half with under four minutes to play, leading 19 points after Granda drove to the rim with 3:17 to play. He led all Bloodhounds with 14 points in the first 20 minutes.
 

The Bears closed the half out with a 12-0 of their own to cut the Bloodhound lead to 7 points in the final minute. After Stewart's final three-pointer of the half, Jordan Evelyn beat the buzzer in the paint to restore a double-digit lead for the visitors.
 

John Jay led 47-37 at the break.


 

St. Joseph's came out of the locker room hot to start the second half, cutting the Bloodhound lead to just two points in the first three minutes. Adam Jasaraj hit a three-pointer just before the 17-minute mark to cap a 10-2 run to open the half.
 

Stewart protected the John Jay advantage on the next possession with his fourth triple of the game, putting his side up 52-47.
 

The Bloodhounds were a made shot short of shooting 50% from three-point range for the game, fueling the offensive barrage in the win. Granda and Stewart hit two of those shots on back-to-back possessions to restore a 10+ point lead, 62-51, with 14:13 to play.
 

John Jay stifled the Bears from that point, holding the hosts to just three field goals for the remainder of the game.
 

Stewart went 5-12 in the final frame to lead all players, as the Bloodhounds took the victory.

TEAM LEADERS

Jamir Stewart led all players with 25 points, his third game this season with at least 20 points. Stewart logged a career-high six made three-pointers on 14 attempts, shooting just over 47% from the field.
 

Syl Granda shot 63.6% from the field and finished with 21 points and a game-high six assists.
 

Keyshawn Miller led all players with three steals and finished with 12 points.
 

NEXT UP: The Bloodhounds open CUNY Athletic Conference play on Friday evening, as the men's and women's basketball teams travel to Brooklyn College for a doubleheader. Tip-off for the men's match-up is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
