Women's Basketball Bests CCNY On Play4Kay Day At The Doghouse On Saturday Afternoon

New York, NY - The John Jay women's basketball team completed the season series sweep of the visiting CCNY Beavers, picking up a 83-50 home triumph on Saturday afternoon. 
 
With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 15-7 on the year and 9-2 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play. The Beavers falter to 3-17 and 1-11 in league contests. 
 
Four Bloodhounds finished in double-figures, led by Kamryn Hammond, who netted a team-leading 23 points on 9 of 16 shooting from the field. The graduate guard grabbed eight rebounds to go along with four assists and two steals in 25 minutes of play. 
 
Natalie Simonds poured in a career-high 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field in 21 minutes off-the-bench. Michaela Lattimore registered her first career double-double as the Morristown, NJ native poured in 13 points to go along with a team-high 13 caroms, nine of which coming on the defensive end. 
 
Ayanna Edwards finished the double-digit scoring performances for the home team with 11 points on 5 of 10 shooting while recording three rebounds, three steals and two assists in 22 minutes. Ashley Zeolla led the way on the defensive front, recording three blocks and two steals while grabbing seven rebounds in 29 minutes.
 
CCNY's Anais Rosa led all scorers with 29 points on 9 of 23 shooting from the field, which included hitting 7 of 14 from three-point range. She added a team-high four assists and two steals.
 
Joscelyn Ramos was the second CCNY player in double-figures, chipping in 11 points on 5 of 10 shooting. She matched Rosa with four assists and two steals. Anna Vikatos secured nine rebounds for the visitors while recording two blocks in her 40 minutes of play. 
 
The Bloodhounds jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the opening quarter with Ayanna Edwards tallying four the seven points in the stanza. John Jay extended the lead to 12-3 as Hammond dialed up her second three-pointer of the quarter from the left wing, adjacent to the Beavers' bench off the feed from Hannah RubertoAnna Vikatos halted the run by the Bloodhounds with a three-pointer from the right wing, as CCNY trimmed the lead in half, 12-6. 
 
The Bloodhounds closed out first quarter scoring five the final eight points in taking a 17-9 lead. John Jay converted on 41.2 percent from field in the opening frame while limiting CCNY to just 23.1 percent, despite the Beavers hitting on 42.9 percent from long range (3 of 7). Hadja Bah kicked off the scoring for the Bloodhound in the second quarter as she was able to corral the rebound off a misfired three-pointer and lay it right back to put John Jay up 19-9.
 
Anais Rosa drilled a three-pointer at the 7:45 mark to trim the Bloodhounds lead down to nine, 21-12. Vikatos followed suit with a jumper. John Jay responded with a 14-1 over the next five minutes, upping their lead to 35-15 as Natalie Simonds converted on the mid-range jumper after getting the pass from Hammond. Joscelyn Ramos halted the Bloodhounds spurt with a three-pointer of her own with under thirty seconds left to go in the opening half. 
 
The Bloodhounds finished the first twenty minutes converting on 42.1 percent from the floor (16 of 38) while holding the Beavers to just 20.7 percent (6 of 29). CCNY found their touch from the outside, hitting on 38.5 percent while John Jay just made two of nine from deep (22.2 percent). Hammond finished the opening half with 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting while grabbing six boards. Simonds had eight in the opening quarter while Ashley Zeolla swatted away three shots. 

Rosa commenced the scoring for the visitors to start the third quarter before Tiffany Bogle hit a layup that made it 37-21. The jumper by Bogle kickstarted a 14-4 run by the Bloodhounds, increasing their lead to 49-25 as Hammond and Bogle combined to score ten of the 14 points during the run. John Jay hit on all six of their attempts during that span that stretched out over a 3:12 span. 

CCNY sparked a run of their own, outscoring John Jay 10-6 over the next 4:14, capped by Rosa, who converted the traditional three-point play from the line. Ruberto put an end to the run, converting on a layup that increased the home team's lead to 57-35 with 1:39 left in the third quarter. The Bloodhounds converted on 50.0 percent shooting in the third quarter (11 of 22). 

Both teams capitalized on their chances in the first half of the final quarter, as the Bloodhounds stretched out their lead to 28, following a made jumper from Simonds, which made it 71-44.  John Jay closed out their second straight win and ninth conference win of the season on a 12-6 run, as Lattimore banked in a layup off the feed from Robinson with twenty seconds showing on the game clock. 

For the game, the Bloodhounds shot 46.3 percent from the floor (38 of 82) while holding the Beavers to just 27.7 percent (18 of 65). The 38 made field goals and 82 attempts are season-bench marks for the Bloodhounds. John Jay matched their season-high for total rebounds with 65, as they also did so against the Beavers back on January 17. 

The Bloodhounds are back in action on Monday, February 12, as they will host York College at 6:00 p.m.
