Men's Volleyball Extends Win Streak To Four Straight, Blanks CCNY For First CUNYAC Win

New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team earned a pair of back-and-forth set wins in the first and second before securing their fourth straight win in the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) lid-lifter on Friday evening, defeating the visiting CCNY Beavers, 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-18). 
 
With the triumph, the Bloodhounds move to 4-1 on the season while the Beavers suffer their first loss of the year and stand at 3-1. 
 
Akashdeep Singh led the way for John Jay with 12 kills while adding three digs and ace for 13 points on the night. Kyle Barriffe-Johnson continues his economic hitting, finishing with ten kills, three digs, two blocks and hit .368 for the match. Logan Ramos finished the evening with a team-high 23 assists and eight digs while also serving up three aces and adding two blocks. 
 
Reng Chen paced CCNY with six kills, five digs and an ace for a team-high seven points. Cristian Canela matched Chen with seven points while finishing with four kills and four blocks. Three Beavers posted double-digit digs on the night, led by Edwin Fierros Gaytan, who posted a match-high of 17. Li added ten digs as did Alex Abraham. 
 
First Set - John Jay jumped out to an early 4-2 lead following a kill from Barriffe-Johnson. The two teams traded points until the visitors grabbed control of the set, outscoring the Bloodhounds, 16-10, to take a 18-14 lead following an attack error. A pair of kills from Barriffe-Johnson and Ramos knotted the set at 19-19 as CCNY called for time. Following the break, the Beavers recorded a block by Anton Oliveira-Nurse which put them at set point. Singh killed the rally as two mishits by CCNY gave the set to John Jay. 
 
Second Set - CCNY was in control of the second set, cruising to a 14-9 advantage following a kill from Oliveira-Nurse. The Bloodhounds chipped away and ultimately took their fir lead of the set at 18-17 following an attack error from Chen. The visitors went back up 20-18 on a combined block from Oliveira-Nurse and Kyrylo Vysotsky. Ramos served up an ace before the two squads alternated points. Two kills from Singh put the Bloodhounds in position for the second set triumph. An error from Steven Ajazi kept the Beavers in the set but Barriffe-Johnson came through with the kill as John Jay went up 2-0. 
 
Third Set - The two teams continued the trend of exchanging points as Stephen Daly registered three straight kills to make it 9-8 in favor of the home team. With John Jay up 12-11, the Bloodhounds ignited a larger 13-3 run from that point in taking a 24-14 lead. The Beavers prolonged the set with four straight points before a block from Ajazi and Daly sealed the match. 
 
The Bloodhounds return to the court on Thursday, February 15, as they will travel to Lehman for a 7:00 p.m. first-serve.
