Men's Basketball Falls To Lehman On Wednesday Evening

Bronx, NY - The John Jay men's basketball team held a four-point halftime lead in their CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) clash at Lehman on Wednesday. Both teams traded buckets over the first half of the frame until the Lightning closed out the stanza outscoring the visitors, 33-20, as John Jay fell 84-72. 
 
The Bloodhounds slip to 6-17 overall on the season and 2-10 in league contests while the Lightning improve to 15-8 and 10-2 in conference play. 
 
Jamir Stewart led a total of four Bloodhounds in double-digits, as Stewart finished with a team-high 16 points on 6 of 18 shooting from the field in his 36 minutes of action. Jordan Evelyn added 14 points while hitting on 5 of 10 from the field.

For the Hempstead, NY native, it marked his sixth double-digit scoring performance in the last seven games. He also grabbed eight rebounds while dishing out a team-best five assists and recorded three steals. 

 
Adrian Kopec went for 12 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Garrison Watkins concluded the evening with his 17th career double-double and seventh of the season after the Staten Island native tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds. 
 
Kai Parris led all scorers with a game-high 28 points of which he went 9 of 15 from the field and 10 of 13 from the free-throw line. He grabbed eight rebounds, swatted four shots, and dished out two helpers in 36 minutes of work. Cameron Burns contributed 16 points while hitting a perfect 9 of 9 from the charity stripe. He distributed a team-best five assists while also grabbing four boards. 
 
DeAundre Manuel registered a double-double as he tallied 11 points while corralling ten rebounds. He hit on 4 of 8 from the floor while adding two steals and a block. Juan Fernandez and Lasana Camara each scored ten points on a combined 6 of 12 shooting from the floor. Camara hit on 6 of 7 from the line while adding six rebounds in 19 minutes of work. 
 
The Bloodhounds opened the contest scoring seven of the first nine points in taking a 7-2 lead after Evelyn hit on the layup chance. 
 
The two teams traded points for a majority of the first half with John Jay staging an 8-2 run, capped by a three-pointer from Stewart as the Bloodhounds grabbed a 35-28 lead with 3:26 left to go before halftime. 
 
Lehman closed the half by scoring five of the final seven points, as Manuel's layup brought the home to within four, 37-33. 
 
The Lightning converted on 47.6 percent from the field in the opening half (10 of 21) while the Bloodhounds hit on 37.2 percent (16 of 43).
 
Lehman opened the second half on a 6-0 run in retaking the lead, 39-37, as Burns hit on a three-pointer from the pass from Francisco Demers. Stewart tied the contest with a jumper to halt the run, to knot the game at 39-39. 
 
The two programs split the next 22 points over a 4:39 span, as both converted on 4 of 8 from the field as the game stayed tied at 50-50 following a Watkins triple. The Bloodhounds went ahead on a layup from Watkins, 52-50, at the 12:41 mark. 
 
From there, the momentum shifted in favor of the Lightning, as Lehman orchestrated a 23-8 run over a nearly ten-minute span in taking a 73-60 lead. 
 
Parris netted nearly half of Lehman's points during the run (12) while the team converted on 7 of 17 from the field but hit on 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. 
 
The Lightning defense limited the Bloodhounds to just 2 of 14 over the same amount of time while John Jay couldn't hit from the outside, going 0 of 6 from deep. 
 
Evelyn ended the run with a layup for his tenth point of the contest and completed the three-point play from the line. 
 
Lehman closed out the game scoring 11 of the final 20 points in which they went 2 of 2 from the floor and 7 of 7 from the charity stripe. The Bloodhounds hit on 2 of 4 while connecting on 5 of 8 from the line. 
 
The Bloodhounds shot 37.0 percent for the contest while Lehman converted on 49.0 percent from the floor. Both teams struggled from beyond the arc, as John Jay was held to just 17.1 percent (6 of 35) while the Lightning hit on 26.7 percent (4 of 15). 
 
The Bloodhounds were outmuscled on the boards, 46-36, but held a 17-12 edge on the offensive glass. The John Jay reserves scored 24 of their 72 points while converting 23 points off Lehman's 19 mishaps. Tonight's contest featured 13 lead changes and nine ties. 
 
John Jay returns home to The Doghouse on Saturday, February 10, as they welcome the CCNY Beavers. 
 
Tipoff is slated for 3:00 p.m.
