Women's Basketball Collects 14th Win Of The Season, Defeats Lehman, 65-49, On Wednesday

Bronx, NY - The John Jay women's basketball team overcame a slow start to the contest as the Bloodhounds defeated the Lehman College Lightning, 65-49, on Wednesday evening. 
 
With the win, John Jay improves to 14-7 on the season and 8-2 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play while Lehman falters to 7-16 and 6-6 in the circuit. 
 
Kamryn Hammond produced her 13th double-figure scoring game in her last 14 games played, as the Poughkeepsie, NY native dropped a team-leading 18 points in 29 minutes of play. Hammond grabbed eight rebounds, while tallying four assists and a steal. 
 
Michaela Lattimore, making her first start of the year, contributed ten points on 4 of 9 shooting while matching Hammond with eight rebounds. The Morristown, NJ native filled the stat sheet with two assists, a steal and a block in her 20 minutes of work. 
 
Ashley Zeolla and Ayanna Edwards each netted points with Zeolla leading the charge on the boards, finishing with nine. Edwards collected eight caroms, equaled Hammond's assist total (4) and finished with two steals. 
 
Natalie Simonds added eight points and three rebounds off the bench. Tiffany Bogle scored six points and swiped two steals. 
 
Hannah Ruberto netted five points and was instrumental on the boards, securing seven rebounds while also filling the stat sheet, with two blocks, one assist and a steal in 20 minutes. Hadja Bah added five rebounds and two assists. 
 
Ramatoulaye Diallo led all scorers with 22 points on a 10 of 23 shooting display from the field while collecting eight rebounds. She added three steals, three blocks and two assists while playing the full forty minutes. 
 
Myandra Duquesnay was the second Lightning player in double-figures, as shed netted 14 points while going 8 of 11 from the free-throw line. 
 
An auspicious start to the contest had Lehman leading 8-7 as both teams struggled to find their range from the floor, shooting a combing 6 of 29 from the field and 2 of 9 from three-point range. 
 
The Bloodhounds opened the second quarter on a 14-6 run over the first four minutes, as they took a 21-14 lead, capped by a jumper by Edwards at the 5:14 mark. 
 
Lehman cut the deficit to three, 28-25, at the 1:41 mark after outscoring the Bloodhounds, 11-7, over a 3:20 span. Edwards hit a floating jumper in the paint that extended the visitors lead. Duquesnay made one of two from the line as John Jay took a four-point lead into the locker room, 30-26. 
 
The Bloodhounds converted on 55.6 percent from the floor in the second quarter (10 of 18) while limiting Lehman to just 31.6 percent (6 of 19). 
 
When play resumed for the second half, the Bloodhounds scored 11 of the first 19 points, with Zeolla capping the spurt with two from the free-throw line that made it 41-34. 
 
The Lightning kept pace, trimming the John Jay advantage to 42-38 after Allerza Pena hit two from the free-throw line with 31 seconds remaining in the quarter. Zeolla pushed the lead up to six on a layup that made it 44-38. 
 
John Jay commenced the final quarter with an 8-3 run that extended their lead to 52-41 after Simonds hit on a right-handed layup off the feed from Hammond. 
 
The visitors closed out the contest outscoring Lehman, 13-8, over the final six minutes in preserving their 14th win of the season and taking the season series from the Lightning. 
 
Tonight's victory over Lehman marked John Jay's tenth straight against the Lightning, dating back to December 1, 2018, in which they posted a 69-51 home triumph. 
 
For the game, the Bloodhounds shot 38.6 percent while holding the Lightning to just 25.8 shooting (17 of 66). John Jay held a 54-42 edge on the boards, while collecting 41 defensive caroms. 
 
John Jay returns home to The Doghouse on Saturday, February 10, as they will welcome the CCNY Beavers for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
