Men's Volleyball Outlasts Lehman At The Doghouse On Thursday Evening

New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team earned their second straight win as the Bloodhounds outlasted the Lehman College Lightning, 3-1 (25-21; 25-11; 22-25; 25-23) at The Doghouse on Thursday evening.
 
With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 12-5 overall and 6-2 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play while the Lightning fall to 7-10 and 4-4 in league contests. 
 
Alex Bridgelall led the way for the Bloodhounds on the evening, securing 13 points while finishing the match with 10 kills, 17 assists, and nine digs. Logan Ramos paced John Jay with a team-high 11 kills while coming within one dig of a fifth double-double of the season, as the Riverdale, NY native tallied nine digs and seven assists on the night. Kyle Barriffe-Johnson notched nine kills and five total blocks. 
 
Ray Rodriguez was one of two Lightning players to finish with a double-double as he tallied 14 kills to go along with 20 digs. Alain Abreau Esteva added 12 kills and 10 digs while Jimmy Evans led all Lehman student-athletes with 17 digs. 
 
First Set -The Bloodhounds raced out to an early 8-2 advantage following a kill from Steven Ajazi from Bridgelall. Lehman outscored John Jay, 17-12, in getting the deficit down to two, 20-19, following a kill from Abreau Esteva. John Jay closed out the set on a 5-2 run, capped by an attack from Abreau Esteva. 
 
Second Set - The second set began more tightly contested, as the Bloodhounds claimed an early 6-4 lead. From that point, the Bloodhounds used an 8-1 run that saw the lead swell to 14-5, thanks to a service ace from Jeferson Availa. John Jay closed out the second set on an 11-6 run, capped by a kill from Barriffe-Johnson. In the second set, the Bloodhounds hit .259 while limiting Lehman to a -.214 hitting percentage. 
 
Third Set - Lehman continued to work in the set and match overall. Following John Jay leading 12-10 thanks to a service error, the Lightning staged a 16-10 run to close out the set as Neithn Pilay had two kills during the run with Emmanuel Oldauso sealing the set win with a kill. Lehman hit .310 while holding John Jay to just a .114 hitting percentage. 
 
Fourth Set- The visitors staged a 4-1 lead before the Bloodhounds regained their composure. A 17-12 run by John Jay pushed the advantage in favor of the home team as the Bloodhounds finished the run thanks to an attack error from Oladuso, giving John Jay the win. 
 
John Jay heads to Brooklyn College on Saturday, March 16 as the Bloodhounds and Bulldogs square off at noon from the West Quad Gymnasium.
