Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Medgar Evers in CUNYAC Road Match

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team landed back in the win column on Tuesday night with a three-set win over Medgar Evers.

The win marks four straight over the Cougars and eight wins in the last ten meetings. John Jay improves to 10-4 (4-1 CUNYAC) on the season, making it three straight campaigns with at least ten wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Cougars started on a 6-2 run but the Bloodhounds responded quickly. Jeferson Avila-Macancela helped his side to seven straight points an a 9-6 advantage. A pair of aces and a kill from Avila-Macancela later in the set would push the Bloodhound advantage to 17-9.
Errors added up for Medgar Evers on the way to a 25-13 first set win for John Jay.

Alex Bridglall served up a trio of aces at the start of the second set to get the Bloodhounds out to a 5-0 lead. John Jay had its worst attacking set of the match but managed to stay in front for the duration of the set. A solo block by Jaden Lamarre and subsequent kill earned the Bloodhounds a double-digit advantage, leading 18-9 at the end of that run. John Jay ended set two with a 25-16 win.

The Bloodhound offense picked back up the tempo in the final set. Stephen Daly, Kyle Barriffe-Johnson and Kensley Jean Gilles all logged kills as the visitors forced a timeout up 12-6. Medgar Evers later pulled within two points of the lead, 21-23, before Barriffe-Johnson was substituted back into the game in his lone action of the match and scored the final two kills for a 25-21 win in the deciding set.

Logan Ramos was a jack of all trades in the win; hitting .571 with four kills, logging ten assists and six digs. Stephen Daly finished with a match-high five kills and Jeferson Avila-Macancela finished with a match-high five aces.
