Bronx, NY - The John Jay Bloodhounds softball team returned to Bahoshy Field on the campus of Fordham University after 48 hours off for another non-conference doubleheader.
The Bloodhounds took the field under the lights on Monday evening for a pair of contests against the Yeshiva University Maccabees, with the home squad scoring wins in both games.
Game One: John Jay 33, Yeshiva 0
The Bloodhounds never trailed in the opening contest of the doubleheader. John Jay logged 17 runs in the first inning, placing that single-inning run total among the top 25 in NCAA Division III history.
Jaliene Santiago was dominant in the circle and at the plate. She was nearly perfect with the ball in her hand, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing just one hit on 17 at-bats and nine strikeouts. The reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week made it on base in all four at-bats, finishing 3-4 with three hits, six RBI's and one walk. She logged multi-RBI home runs in both of her plate appearances in the first inning.
She was only outdone in run performance by
Maleea Gallaspy, who also went 3-4 at the plate with three hits and one walk but finished with 8 RBI's.
In five trips to the dish,
Rylea Sandel scored five hits and three RBI's, with one double.
Ciaran Iglesias recorded a double in both of her at-bats, finishing the first game with three RBI's and one walk.
The Bloodhounds' starting catcher
Elika Rodrigues finished her abbreviated stint with one hit in her lone at-bat, adding two RBI's and two walks.
Julie-Ann Cartagena came on in relief for Rodrigues and scored one hit in three at-bats.
Jordyn Prince plated one run with one walk in one at-bat after starting in left field.
Jogelys Sanchez was strong in her substitute appearance in left, scoring two hits on three at-bats with two RBI's.
Briana Cornejo made a late appearance at shortstop, accounting for one RBI on three walks. Bloodhounds' centerfielder
Kelly Fajardo put the ball in play in both at-bats with one walk. She was pinch hit for by
Miranda Perez, who was walked twice.

Game 2 | John Jay 13, Yeshiva 0 (5 Innings)
The Bloodhounds continued their hot-hitting approach, scoring 12 runs over the first three innings, highlighted by a five-spot in the second inning as John Jay completed the doubleheader sweep, defeating the visiting Maccabees, 13-0.

Rodrigues had back-to-back inside-the-park home runs in the first and second innings. Ten of the 13 Bloodhounds batters had produced a multi-hit game, with
Angelina Schoelles, and
Kelly Fajardo each collecting three hits with Schoelles leading the way with three RBIs.
Zoe Lowe and
Ciaran Iglesias each had two RBIs while Sandel, Santiago, and
Jordyn Prince each had a RBI.

Lindsay Ogden, the newly-minted CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week, flirted with a perfect game, as she finished with a one-hit shutout and struck out 11 batters without conceding a walk.

Rodrigues led off the game with a first-pitch inside-the-park home run. Sandel tripled home Gallapsy as the Bloodhounds went up 2-0.

A walk to Santiago moved the line as Schoelles ripped an RBI single to left, bringing in Sandel for the third run of the inning.

John Jay opened the game up in the top of the second as Rodrigues led off with her second inside-the-parker. Three straight hits, capped on a Santiago RBI infield single to third made it 5-0.

Schoelles worked a bases-loaded walk that brought in the sixth run of the game for the Bloodhounds.
Alyssa Cadolino roped a hard-hit single to third, giving the Bloodhounds a pair of runners.

A base hit by Fajardo loaded the bases before Iglesias doubled to right center, bringing in Schoelles. The next batter, Prince, singled to center and scored Fajardo before being tagged by the shortstop, upping the lead to 8-0.

In the bottom of the third, Lowe sent an infield single to third that scored Cartagena, who also reached on an infield hit to the hot corner.

Schoelles continued her hot approach at the plate, sending a two-run single to right field that increased the lead to 11-0. Iglesias roped a single to center that plated Schoelles, extending the lead to 12-0.
