Women's Volleyball Stumbles in Non-Conference Match Against Merchant Marine

Kings Point, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team kicked off its weekend with a rare 10:00 a.m. start, on the road in Nassau County to take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA).

The Saturday morning meeting was the first between the two sides since the 2015 season.

Merchant Marine held the upper hand for all three sets.

The Bloodhounds played their best volleyball in the second set, working back from a 7-1 deficit to start the match. The John Jay attack worked back to tie the second set at 19-all with a match-high 14 kills.

Despite the Mariners scoring the next five points, Josanne Lewis converted three consecutive swings to pull back within one point of the hosts.

She led the team with seven kills.

Reilly Catan finished the match with a season-high 16 digs.

NEXT UP: The Bloodhounds return to the friendly confines of The Doghouse, hosting Brooklyn College on Thursday, Sept. 26 to kick off CUNYAC conference play. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
