Four Score In Double Figures As Men's Basketball Hands Lehman First Conference Setback On Saturday Afternoon, 82-69

Bronx, NY - Four John Jay men's basketball players scored double-figures as the Bloodhounds handed Lehman their first conference defeat, winning 82-69 on the road at The Apex on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, John Jay (11-5; 4-1 CUNYAC) moves into a tie with Lehman for second place behind Baruch.

Keyshawn Miller poured in a team-leading 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the floor in 28 minutes of action. It marks the 13th time this year that he has scored in double-figures. The Yonkers, NY native recorded four steals, the 15th time this season he has swiped at least two steals in a game.

Syl Granda recorded his fourth double-double of the year, finishing the contest with 18 points on 7 of 16 shooting while grabbing a game-high ten caroms, eight on the defensive end in 34 minutes.

Jamir Stewart notched 17 points on an efficient 6 of 12 shooting from the field, which included a 3 of 8 shooting display from three-point range. This marked the 31st time in his Bloodhound tenure that he has scored in double-figures.

Jeremiah Cardi, who garnered the start this afternoon, chipped in 11 points on 3 of 8 shooting in 24 minutes of play. Jordan Evelyn added eight points, while Emmanuel Adenekan finished with six points, seven rebounds, and four blocks.

Kunai Bagga led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 7 of 10 from the floor while connecting on 4 of 7 from three-point range. Kai Parris was the second Lehman scorer to finish in double-figures, recording a double-double as he concluded the contest with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He added four helpers and recorded a steal.

Both teams traded points over the first two minutes of the ballgame. John Jay built a 7-0 run to jump in front, 11-4, at 14:06. Lehman's Brandon Marks hit a three-pointer that halted the run and brought the home team to within four. That ignited a 12-3 run by Lightning, who jumped ahead of the Bloodhounds, 16-14, when Parris drilled a mid-range jumper. John Jay wasted no time, answering back with a 12-2 run that saw the lead swell to 26-18 following an Evelyn free-throw.

Over the next two minutes, Lehman outscored John Jay, 9-1, to tie the contest at 27 as Bagga rattled in a three-pointer off the feed from Lasana Camara at the 5:05 mark. It was John Jay's turn to respond, and they did so with stifling defense as the visitors embarked on a 15-2 run over the final 3:38 of the half, taking a 42-29 lead as Granda beat the first-half horn following a steal.

The Bloodhounds forced six Lehman turnovers during their run before halftime while hitting on 5 of 8 from the field as Granda, Cardi, and Miller combined for nine of the 15 points. John Jay held Lehman to just 29.0 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes. The Bloodhounds capitalized off 14 Lehman mishaps, turning those into 23 points.

When play resumed for the second half, Lehman trimmed the deficit down to 11, 49-38, when Parris hit on a jumper following grabbing the offensive rebound off a missed three-pointer from Marks. On the next trip down the floor for John Jay, Granda drained a three-pointer after getting the pass from Cardi and promptly calling timeout, up 52-38.

With 12 minutes to go, Stewart dialed up a three-pointer after getting the ball from Miller as John Jay started to pull away, leading 62-46. Lehman continued to fight back in the contest, as Bagga successfully got into the lane and finished the layup, as the home team trailed 68-57, with 8:41 left to play.

Cardi hit a three-pointer that pushed the lead up to 14, sparking an 11-4 run over the next three minutes, as John Jay's went up 81-63. Amar Ndiaye scored the last six points for the Lightning, but it wasn't enough as the Bloodhounds held on for the double-digit road victory.

The Bloodhounds converted 43.9 percent from the field, while Lehman hit 38.5 percent. The two teams had ample opportunities from the free throw line, as John Jay hit on 17 of 27 while Lehman converted 13 of 21. The John Jay defense forced 19 turnovers and had 17 steals, tying a season-high (Pratt - Nov. 26).

The Bloodhounds return home to The Doghouse on Wednesday, January 22, as they will take on CCNY at 8:00 p.m.
