Lattimore & Zeolla each eclipse 20-points on the afternoon

Bronx, NY - Behind a pair of 20-point performances from sophomore forward Michaela Lattimore and senior guard Ashley Zeolla, the John Jay women's basketball handed the Lehman College Lightning their first CUNYAC loss of the season, earning a 65-46 road triumph on Saturday afternoon from The Apex.

Lattimore registered her seventh double-double of the season and her second 20-point outing this year as she finished with a team-high 23 points on 9 of 21 shooting from the field and grabbed 12 rebounds. It marks the seventh time she has grabbed double-figure rebounds and 12th in her career. The Morristown, NJ native also shot a perfect 5 out of 5 on the free throw line while adding a steal in her 34 minutes of work.

Zeolla netted 21 points, the fifth time she has gone for 20 or more points in a game this season while shooting an efficient 5 of 11 from the field. Eleven of her 21 points came from the charity stripe, as she finished 11 of 16. The Yorktown Heights, NY native now stands at 979 career points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists, and had two steals in 29 minutes of play.

Essence Richardson scored six points off the bench, going 3 of 4 from the field, and also corralled four rebounds. Briana Minick netted five points and was a factor on the board, grabbing nine caroms and dishing out four helpers, matching Ayanna Edwards for a team-high.

All eight players for John Jay scored in the contest. Edwards led the way with three steals. Hadja Bah, Alexis Jones, and Morgan Kimmi combined for eight points, with Bah hitting 4 of 4 at the line and Kimmi hitting both her attempts.

Lehman had three players score in double-figures. Heaven Figueroa, who entered today's contest as the second-leading scorer in all of NCAA Division III at 27.3 points per game, was held to 12 points on 4 of 20 shooting from the floor and 2 of 11 from three-point range. She led the Lightning with two assists and a block before fouling out for the first time this season.

Emily Kennedy matched Figueroa's point production while converting on 3 of 17 from the field. Six of her 12 points came from the line as she hit on 6 of 8. She grabbed seven rebounds, dished out two assists, and had a steal while playing the full forty. Musharafa Muniru had a double-double for the home team, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds while also playing all forty minutes.

The Bloodhounds got on the board first as Zeolla hit the front end of a two-shot foul. Heaven Figueroa notched a three-pointer from the wing, giving Lehman their first lead, but Lattimore quickly responded on the other end with a jumper. Richardson tied the game at 5-5, going coast to coast and finishing with a euro-step, right-handed layup. Zeolla continued to pace the offense early on, giving John Jay an 8-5 advantage following a tough scoop layup in the paint.
