Ashley Zeolla Nets 1,000th Career Point In Bloodhounds' Wire-To-Wire Home Triumph Over CCNY on Wednesday Evening

New York, NY - Senior guard Ashley Zeolla achieved a milestone Wednesday evening, scoring her 1,000th career point as the John Jay women's basketball team picked up a wire-to-wire home triumph over the visiting CCNY Beavers, 70-32.

Zeolla finished with a team-high 25 points on 10 of 20 shooting from the field while hitting 2 of 4 from three-point range, including the milestone triple at the 3:21 mark of the third quarter.  
 



Ayanna Edwards was the second Bloodhound in double-figures, as the Huntington Station, NY native added 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting while dishing out four rebounds and four assists in 26 minutes. Briana Minick added eight points, while Michaela Lattimore scored seven points and corralled 17 rebounds, nine coming on the offensive end. 

All nine players scored a point while grabbing at least two rebounds, as Hadja Bah grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds, eight on the offensive glass.

Anais Rosa was the lone CCNY player to score in double-figures, finishing with a team-leading 13 points on 5 of 15 shooting.  The Bloodhounds opened the contest on a 7-0 run, with Lattimore scoring the first points on a mid-range jumper while Edwards stepped back on the wing and swished home a three-pointer.

Ramos connected on a corner three-pointer for the Beavers' first points of the contest. The Bloodhounds continued to convert on the offensive side, outscoring CCNY, 7-2, in a minute, with Edwards scoring two straight, fast break points as the lead increased to 15-5.

Zeolla drilled a corner two-pointer that continued the run before Subervi hit a layup just before the horn sounded to end the first quarter. John Jay jumped out to a 6-0 run that opened up the second quarter, extending the Bloodhounds advantage to 23-7.

CCNY began to chip into the deficit, outscoring John Jay, 17-10, over the next 7:20. Subervi made a layup that furthered cut into the Bloodhounds' lead, with John Jay holding on to a 33-24 lead.

The Bloodhounds shot 35.7 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, while the Beavers hit 40.7 percent. John Jay held a 28-16 edge on the boards, highlighted by a 16-5 mark on the offensive glass. Zeolla paced the Bloodhounds with 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting from the field.

Minick sank a pair of free-throws before Edwards continued to capitalize on the fast break off a Beavers' turnover, as John Jay pushed the lead to 13 at 37-24.

The Bloodhounds pushed the lead to 55-27 on the strength of an 18-3 run, in which John Jay was paced by Zeolla, who had 12 points during the run, including a corner three-pointer for her 1,000th point at the 3:21 mark.
 

John Jay outscored the Beavers 22-3 for the quarter, shooing 35.0 percent from the field and holding CCNY to just 1 of 11 shooting.

The visitors scored four quick points as Subervi hit on a jumper. The Bloodhounds countered by finishing the frame, scoring the final 15 points, with Alexis Jones hitting a three-pointer off the pass from Essence Richardson.

John Jay shot 37.2 percent from the floor for the game while holding CCNY to just 27.1 percent. The Bloodhounds held a 59-28 margin on the glass, highlighted by a 28-7 edge on the offensive glass. John Jay forced 35 turnovers and turned those into 31 points in the wire-to-wire victory.

The Bloodhounds will look for their third straight win on Friday evening as they welcome the Medgar Evers College Cougars.
