Women's Volleyball Moves To 5-0 In Conference Play After Four-Set Victory Over Brooklyn At The Doghouse

New York, NY - The defending CUNYAC women's volleyball champions, the John Jay women's volleyball team, extended their win streak to three while remaining undefeated in conference play, besting the visiting Brooklyn College Bulldogs, 3-1 (25-15; 25-16; 24-26; 25-21).

The Bloodhounds move to 15-3 overall and 5-0 in league play, while the Bulldogs drop to 9-11 and 3-2 in conference matches.


Six-time CUNYAC Player of the Week honoree, Jadyn Orava, produced her ninth double-double of the season, finishing with a match-high 20 kills and 14 digs. Emilia Cascapera added 11 kills while Madison Mullan had eight kills.


Nina Bongiovanni had 12 digs and five kills, while Adrienne Xiao served up 40 assists in the victory. Lizbeth Martinez led the way with 18 digs.


Brooklyn's Danielle Fuxman led the way with 11 kills while Amra Mulic had 16 assists. Ruti Joshi had 19 digs while Malia Reyes had 16 digs. Mulic had a double-double, finishing with 12 digs.


Both teams traded points in the opening set before the Bloodhounds staged an 8-1 run thanks to a pair of aces from Hailey Waugaman that pushed the lead to 12-7. Orava had three kills to extend the lead to 17-8. Cascapera recorded two kills that moved the lead to 23-13 before back-to-back attack errors gave the set to the Bloodhounds.


John Jay carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 9-3 lead, capped by a Martinez ace. The Bloodhounds remained ahead in the match, 14-5, following an attack error from the visitors. Orava capped the second set with a kill.


Brooklyn took its first lead of the match, as Fuxman recorded a kill to cap a 6-1 run, giving Brooklyn a 10-6 lead. Both teams traded points for much of the third set as the Bloodhounds rallied back from a 23-20 deficit to even the match at 23, following back-to-back kills from Theresa Schmitt—Fuxman and Saule Okeke-Ziburkus, who notched two kills to close the set.


John Jay opened the fourth on a 6-2 run as Orava recorded two straight aces before a kill from Cascapera. The Bloodhounds kept the Bulldog rally at bay and claimed a 24-20 lead thanks to another Cascapera kill and sealed the match with an attack error.


The Bloodhounds hit .248 for the match while limiting the Bulldogs to just .049. John Jay notched 48 kills, 13 aces, and 45 assists. Brooklyn held a 71-67 edge in digs.


John Jay gets set to host Alvernia and St. Joseph's University - Long Island on Saturday, October 25, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
