Women's Volleyball's Six-Match Win Streak Snapped At Montclair State On Thursday

Montclair, NJ - The John Jay women's volleyball team saw its six-match winning streak end on Thursday evening, falling to the Montclair State Red Hawks, 3-0 (17-25; 24-26; 19-25).

The Bloodhounds fall to 18-4 while the Red Hawks improve to 24-4.


Sophomore outside hitter, Jadyn Orava, finished with a team-high 13 kills on 44 total attempts while recording seven digs. Madison Mullan added seven kills and three blocks. 
Orava and Adrienne Xiao had three aces with Xiao notching 23 assists. Hailey Waugaman led the way with nine digs. 

Bryn Bautista produced a double-double for the Red Hawks, finishing the contest with 13 kills and ten digs. Breanna Craig added eight kills. Emma Hatcher had 18 digs while Lucy Cornelius had 33 assists.

The Bloodhounds rallied from 3-0 margin to even the first set at 5-5 following a service error. Orava recorded two straight aces to give the Bloodhounds a 7-5 lead. Montclair State responded with a 7-1 run, capped by a kill from Craig as they retook the lead, 13-9. They closed out the set with a 7-3 burst, capped by a set-clinching ace from Camryn Muuss.

The two teams traded points in the early portion of the second set before the visitors doubled up the score, 8-4, following a block from Mullan and Nina Bongiovanni. MSU recorded 10 of the following 13 points. John Jay answered back with a 6-1 run of their own, taking a 23-20 lead after a kill from Emilia Cascapera. The Bloodhounds had set point in their reach, but the Red Hawks came soaring back with four straight to upend the Bloodhounds, 26-24.

John Jay took a 5-3 lead in the third set before Muuss recorded a pair of aces, highlighting a 6-2 run that put Montclair up by three. The Bloodhounds regained the lead at 13. Montclair went up 17-15 after an attack error, but a kill from Mullan closed the deficit to one. Montclair State closed out the match on an 8-3 run, as Hatcher served up a match-clinching ace.

The Bloodhounds were held to just .155 hitting while the Red Hawks converted at a .269 clip.
John Jay will make the short trek to NYU as they compete in the NYU Tri-Match against Randolph-Macon (11:30 AM) and the host Violets (2:00 PM) on Saturday, November 1.
