Men's Hoops Drops Road Non-Conference Tilt At Maritime

Throggs Neck, NY - The John Jay men's basketball team fell to the Maritime Privateers, 85-74, on Saturday afternoon from Risenberg Gymnasium.

The Bloodhounds fall to 0-3 on the season while the Privateers move to 1-2.

John Jay had three players score in double-figures, led by Keyshawn Miller, who finished with a double-double, netting a game-high 26 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Miller converted on 8 of 22 from the field while converting 8 of 17 from the free-throw line. He corralled ten defensive rebounds while dishing out a team-high four assists and notching five steals.


Newcomer Ronnie McIntyre scored a career-best 21 points on an efficient 7 of 12 shooting from the field while converting 5 of 8 from three-point range in 37 minutes of play. Adrian Kopec added ten points.


Maritime had four players score in double-figures, with Jake Devaney leading the way with 24 points on 9 of 11 shooting from the field and 4 of 6 from the outside. Zion Williams and Sean Kivlan each had 15 points on a combined 10 of 22 from the field and 5 of 9 from three-point range. Tyler Anderson finished with 13 points, seven of which came from the free-throw line.


The Privateers jumped out to a 15-8 lead before Jamir Stewart hit a jumper in the paint. Maritime went up 29-17 on an Anderson triple. John Jay scored seven straight points, with McIntyre connecting on a pair of three-pointers that trimmed the deficit down to five, 29-24.


Maritime extended its lead at the 5:13 mark, going up 38-27 on a Kivlan layup. The Bloodhounds continued to rally back, staging a 13-0 run in taking a 40-38 lead, as McIntyre converted on another three-pointer with 2:08 left to play before halftime. The Privateers held a one-point lead at the end of the first half, 41-40, after Anderson hit one of two from the line.


McIntyre got the scoring going for John Jay to open the second half, but the lead was quickly erased as Maritime answered back with an 8-0 run, leading 50-42 following a Devany layup. The Privateers took their largest lead of the half, 60-47, on a James O'Connell layup.


The Bloodhounds cut the lead down to six, twice in the later stages, as Miller hit on a layup in the paint as John Jay trailed 70-64. Maritime converted eight straight free throws to close out the contest.


For the game, the Bloodhounds shot 35.9 percent from the field and 32.3 percent from three-point range. John Jay outmuscled Maritime, 41-36, while the Privateers converted 50.0 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from long range.


John Jay wraps up its four-game road trip at Old Westbury on Tuesday, November 18. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
