Women's Basketball Edged By Ramapo, 57-53, On Saturday Afternoon

Mahwah, NJ - The John Jay women's basketball team was edged out by the Ramapo College Roadrunners, 57-53, at the Bradley Center on Saturday afternoon.

Michaela Lattimore had a double-double, leading the team with 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Morristown, NJ native also had two blocks and a game-high four steals in 27 minutes of action. Alexis Jones scored a career-high 14 points on 6 of 11 shooting in her 29 minutes of action. Miah Crockett added eight points while Bryan Bascones netted six points and matched Lattimore with a team-best 12 rebounds.

Ramapo was led by Lauren Flatt, who led all scorers with a game-high 22 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the floor.

The Bloodhounds held the Roadrunners to just 25.0 percent shooting in the opening quarter while John Jay converted on 45.5 percent to start the game as Lattimore scored six of the Bloodhounds' 14 points.

John Jay held an 18-11 lead following a made free-throw from Natalie Simonds at the 7:14 mark of the second quarter. Ramapo staged a 10-2 run of their own over the next three minutes in taking a 21-20 lead as Flatt hit a three-pointer.


The Roadrunners hit 4 of 5 from the field during this span while holding John Jay to just 1 of 5 shooting. Ramapo claimed a 27-22 lead at the break as Flatt hit a three-pointer with 76 seconds to go before the half. The Bloodhounds were held to just two made field goals in the quarter (2 of 15).


Both teams struggled to find their rhythm at the start of the third quarter. Over the first five minutes of the frame, the Bloodhounds outscored Ramapo, 9-6, as they trimmed the deficit down to 33-31 on a Crockett layup. Ramapo outscored John Jay, 9-7, over the remaining 3:21 of the quarter to hold a 42-38 advantage before Briana Minick closed the quarter with a bucket.


In the fourth quarter, the Bloodhounds continued to battle back in the game, as they scored seven of the first 12 points in the frame to get to within two, 47-45, following a Lattimore layup. Both teams struggled to hit from the floor, but Ramapo made the most of their attempts from the line, hitting on 8 of 13, capped by Flatt hitting a pair from the charity stripe with five seconds left to play. Crockett missed a three-point chance late as the Roadrunners held on for the win.


John Jay was held to 34.5 percent shooting from the field. The Bloodhounds went 14 of 21 from the line despite Ramapo holding a 44-43 edge on the boards.


The Bloodhounds will gear up for their home opener on Tuesday, November 18 as they will host Coast Guard.
