Men's Basketball Falls To Greenville, 115-93, on Homecoming

New York, NY - The John Jay men's basketball team was pitted in a high-scoring non-conference tilt on Homecoming against the visiting Greenville University Panthers. The Bloodhounds had five players score in double-figures, but it wasn't enough as the Panthers went on to defeat the Bloodhounds, 115-93, on Friday evening.

Alsseny Diallo had a career evening, scoring a team-high 19 points on 7 of 10 shooting while tallying nine rebounds and four assists in 22 minutes. Keyshawn Miller had 17 points on 8 of 16 shooting while grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out six assists, recording four steals, and adding two blocks.


Adrian Kopec had 12 points while Ronnie McIntyre and Jamir Stewart finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Jackson Gurgel led the way for the Panthers, scoring 19 points. Joshua Williford tallied 15 points. Tim Lofton and Tahj Comeaux netted a combined 26 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the field. 

McIntyre got the scoring going for the Bloodhounds with a triple but Greenville, who came into the contest averaging 120 points per game, used a 13=5 run to go up 13-8 following a three from Gurgel.

The two teams traded buckets with Diallo bringing John Jay to within two, 22-20, following a driving layup off the feed from Amare Jordan. The Bloodhounds took their first lead of the contest on Miller layup, as John Jay led 32-31 with 7:05 left to play before halftime. Greenville closed out the half outscoring John Jay, 26-17, despite both teams making seven field goals down the stretch as the visitors led 57-49.

The Bloodhounds shot close to 60.0 percent from the floor (21 of 36) while Greenville hit at 45.7 percent (21 of 46). John Jay narrowed the deficit down to 66-55 to start the second half as Stewart cruised through the lane for two after getting the pass from Miller.

Greenville outscored John Jay, 17-11, over the next 4:40 in taking an 83-66 after Dylan Rhodes hit from the outside. Over the final 9:14, Greenville closed the game out by outscoring John Jay, 32-27, as Gurgel led the way with ten points as the Panthers converted 12 of 27 from the field. The Bloodhounds connected on 9 of 15 during this span and went 8 of 18 from the line.

The Bloodhounds shot 52.9 percent for the contest while limiting Greenville to 42.0 percent. John Jay outrebounded the Panthers, 56-51.

John Jay will host FDU-Florham on Tuesday, November 25 at 7:00 p.m. from The Doghouse.
