HOLMES Sweet Home - Men's Basketball Edges FDU Florham For First Home Win Of 2025-26

New York, NY - The John Jay men's basketball team held off the visiting FDU-Florham Devils, 76-71 on Tuesday night at The Doghouse.

With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 2-4 on the season while earning their first home victory under first-year head coach James Holmes. FDU-Florham falls to 3-3 on the season.

Senior guard Jamir Stewart led the way for the Bloodhounds, finishing the evening with 25 points on 8 of 17 from the field and hitting 6 of 13 from three-point range. The six three-pointers are a season high and one shy of his career best of seven, which he had at Baruch back on January 10, 2024.

Reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week, senior wing Keyshawn Miller filled up the stat sheet, scoring 16 points on 6 of 12 shooting, while dishing out eight assists, swiping seven steals, grabbing six rebounds, and recording a block in 37 minutes of action.
Adrian Kopec was the third Bloodhound in double-figures, scoring 11 points.

Four Devils scored in double digits, led by Mac Creek, who poured in a team-high 18 points. Chris Smith produced a double-double, finishing with 15 points and ten rebounds. Frankie Denvir and Noah Pagan had 12 and 10 points, respectively.

FDU Devils went up 4-3 on a Pagan layup before James Bradberry answered with an uncontested layup off the feed from Stewart to give John Jay a slim 5-4 lead. The Bloodhounds outscored FDU-Florham, 13-10, over the next six minutes in taking an 18-17 lead after Rayan Meguie scored following an O'Malley King pull-up jumper.

The Devils used a 7-2 run burst to go up 24-20 before Kopec drove the lane for two off the feed from Amare Jordan. John Jay closed out the half on an 18-5 run, hitting on 6 of 7 from the field and 4 of 5 from three-point range with Stewart and Miller combining for 14 of the 18 points.

The Bloodhounds shot 51.9 percent from the field in the opening half while hitting on 53.3 percent from the outside.

When play resumed for the second half, the Bloodhounds opened the frame with a 16-11 run over the first 8:06, as Ronnie McIntyre led the way with six points as John Jay claimed a 56-40. The Bloodhounds upped their lead to 67-50 on an Alsseny Diallo driving layup with 7:51 left to play in regulation.

FDU staged a 21-9 comeback over the last 6:44, in which they converted 7 of 14 from the field and held John Jay to just one made field goal despite hitting on 7 of 13 from the charity stripe.

With 13 seconds left, Jordan missed a pair of free throws that gave possession back to the visitors as Smith hoisted a left-wing three-pointer but couldn't make it as the Bloodhounds let the ball go out of bounds to preserve the five-point victory.

For the contest, the Bloodhounds hit on 47.3 percent from the field and 44.0 percent from long distance. FDU outrebounded John Jay, 40-32.

Following the Thanksgiving break, John Jay will look to make it two wins in a row as they travel to Patchogue, NY, to tangle with the St. Joseph's University - Long Island Golden Eagles.
Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
