Women's Hoops Falls At No. 1 NYU On Monday Evening

New York, NY - For the first time since 2017, the John Jay women's basketball team took on the defending two-time undefeated national champions, the No. 1-ranked NYU Violets, at the John A. Paulson Center, falling 114-34.

Michaela Lattimore was the lone Bloodhound in double figures, scoring ten points on 5 of 10 shooting while pulling down seven rebounds in 27 minutes of play. Bryan Bascones and Briana Minick each had eight points.

NYU had five players score in double digits, led by Olivia Lagao, who netted 23 points on 8 of 12 shooting while hitting on 7 of 10 from the outside. Zahra Alexander had 21 points on 10 of 15 shooting while recording seven rebounds and five steals.


Aila Kaibara finished with 16 points and six assists while hitting on 4 of 8 from three-point range. Megan Ohonde had 11 points while Caitlin Kenny ended with ten points and eight assists.


The Bloodhounds were held to just 26.1 percent from the field despite cleaning up on the board with 35 rebounds. NYU shot a blistering 52.8 percent from the field, highlighted by shooting 63.2 percent in the third quarter (12 of 19). In all, the Violets went 15 of 36 from the outside and held just a 43-35 margin on the boards.


John Jay will hit the road following the Thanksgiving break as they take on Marywood on Saturday, November 29, at 1:00 p.m. in Scranton, PA.
