Defending CUNYAC Champions, Women's Volleyball, Claim First-Ever Regular Season Title On Senior Night

New York, NY - The defending CUNYAC women's volleyball champions, the John Jay women's volleyball team, secured a historic milestone on Tuesday evening, sweeping the visiting Lehman Lightning, 3-0 (25-11; 25-13; 25-12) to finish conference play with a perfect 7-0 record in league play and claim the program's first-ever regular season title.




Since 1990, this marks the 32nd time in league history that a program has an unblemished conference record to clinch the regular-season title.




Before the start of the match, the Bloodhounds recognized their lone senior, Nina Bongiovanni, in a pre-match ceremony for Senior Night.




Hailey Waugaman and Jadyn Orava led the way with 10 kills each, with Waugaman nearly notching a double-double, finishing with nine digs. Lizbeth Martinez also finished with nine digs while recording a team-high five aces. Caroline Guerney added 18 assists in two sets played, while Adrienne Xiao added 13 assists and three aces. 
Lehman was paced by Alanis Vasquez, who had five kills and eight digs. The Bloodhounds finished hitting .385, highlighted by a .462 in the first set. John Jay limited Lehman to just -0.17.

The Bloodhounds opened the match on an 8-0 lead, as Xiao produced three aces. John Jay extended the run to 13-5 to up the lead to 21-7 following a second straight kill from Orava.The Bloodhounds sealed the point after an attack error from Chloe Colon. 

Lehman rallied in the early portion of the second set, trailing just 6-4. The Bloodhounds staged an 18-8 burst, setting up a set point following a kill from Madison Mullan. A second attack error in the set clinched the set for the Bloodhounds.

The Bloodhounds opened up the third set with a 6-1 run, following a kill from Heidi Geyer. A kill from Bongiovanni capped a 16-6 burst, as the home team led, 22-9. The match concluded with a service error from Vasquez as John Jay completed the undefeated CUNYAC season.

The Bloodhounds close out the 2025 regular season on Saturday, November 8, as they will take on New Jersey City University and Mount Saint Mary for the Mount Saint Mary Tri-Match in Newburgh, NY.

John Jay will square off against the Gothic Knights at 1:00 p.m. before taking on the host at 3:00 p.m.
